That is a great deal, get it, and sell the old one on Ebay, or use it as a backup.

I don't know anything about projector. Do you mind giving me some intro?
How is the quality of the image? Compare to TV, regular, HD, LCD, ... How dark does your room have to be, can you view it during the day if all the shades are closed? Does it take input from any source? How much trouble is it to mount on the ceiling? Are there many cables to contend with? Thks a bunch.

Projectors have many different inputs, it just depends on the unit, the picture is astounding, the only downside is that you really need to be able to control the lighting in the room, the darker the better.

It depends on lumens and contrast ratio as to how well it shows in a lighted space.

If you can take your room down to near dark and get a nice screen there is no comparison.

Mounting it in the ceiling is REALLY easy...

A $500 mail-in rebate on a $2000 projector? Damn, I'd be scared to death - what if you never get the rebate (check out many of the hot deals forums like at FatWallet and Anandtech)? I never buy anything because of rebates. I'll wait until some of the models come down in base price a bit more. One thing about rebates this size is it's a good indication of actual prices coming down (or in the case of this one - the projector probably being phased out).

Thanks for the info, though. :)

Yeah that's one of the reasons why I hesitate buying this because of the hefty $500 rebate I have to wait for. It's actually a manufacturer's rebate through Mitsubishi and Projectorpeople.com is an authorized dealer. This deal was actually found on Fatwallet.
