If you want to lump all Spanish speaking stations together, then you have to lump all the English speaking stations together, and then compare the numbers. Not every single Spanish station plays the same thing, or caters to the same audience. It's like saying because 102.1 and 97.9 play R&B that they cater to the same audience. One will play more tejano, while the next will play more club music. Wait, a better example would be to say that 93.7 and 94.5 are the same channel because they both play rock. Think for a second before you start crying.
Whoa, no kidding? I used to be a Gobal Village weekend junkie. I can't recall how many shows I guzzled Red Stripe at at the old Yaga's on Richmond. Great times, and those concerts were ALWAYS parties! What happened??
Coma on the other end of a racial argument. Hillarious. However, Coma's right, not all Spainish speaking stations are the same. Some are Tejano, some are what I would call Spainish Pop, and so on. Also folks, this is Houston, there is a big market for those stations.
And there is a market for people who want to hear Ozzy, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Tesla, Black Label Society, etc. Too bad those fans are getting the shaft.
Hispanics make up nearly a quarter of Texas' population. Their contributions to the cultural diversity of the State, to its economy, its institutions, cannot be overstated.
I agree - GV was a lot of fun. As far Houston radio, on the FM dial I only listen to KPFT on the weekends and to a couple of KTRU programs on Thursdays.
I wasn't commenting on the racial aspect of the situation. But good to know that you think I'm a racist. My only prejudice with regards to race are those who hide behind theirs and mask it as pride.
its not like they were catering to us anyway aces....when was the last time that you heard Maiden on the radio? but I totally agree(as Im sure you know)...the ppl that still enjoy hard rock are totally screwed unless you can pick up 106.1 out of Beaumont.....and make no mistake about it folks.....the hard rock listening population is stil out there....it isnt just a few deluded fools sitting intheir parents basement with long hair and leather banging their heads to old hair bands... but.....that population doesnt say much....so folks figger we aint out there. another royal shaft job by the bastards at Clearchannel...
Hell yeah! Somebody has to have those on tape, I've been looking for mp3s of that stuff ever since S&P went off the air. I'd love to just spend a day listening to them. I'm really going to miss Walton and Johnson.
I’m not calling you racist, its just you’re always someone who is complaining that other are too sensitive. And now you’re being sensitive. Turn about is a b****. And before you say you don’t I specifically remember you coming in a thread in which posters were commenting on a black woman’s looks, and writing that you were surprised that none of the black posters had complained yet. And I hope you’re not implying that I’m racist against Hispanics, because my wife is of Mexican descent. Stop being sensitive.
101 bugged out of their offices on Lovett a while back... I wondered what happened, I never listen to the radio, so I didn't even check to see if they were still around, I just assumed they moved offices. Oh well... RIP KLOL My first memories of that station included the original Moby (not the techno weenie but the big burly radio DJ) and the "four way stop, huuuh... " traffic guy....
I thought Moby and Matthews were 97 Rock. I remember back in the day when 97 and 101 were the only two rock stations in Houston and were battling for ratings. 101 was the institution and 97 was the new kid on the block. The 97 Rock bumper stickers were black and white and the 101 ones had that metal head pic that someone posted earlier in this thread. Oh yeah...."treat it as a 4 way stop....HUUUUH!!!!" When I first heard the KLOL news, I didn't care but this thread reminds me of how cool radio used to be and how cool 101 used to be. I haven't listened to it in years, but just knowing it was still there was kind of nice. Now, I'm getting pretty bummed.
That was Lany Griffith with the "traffic and bondage" segment. I remember Hannah Storm started out on 101 doing sports. Now she's doing it on national TV -- NBC I think. This sucks. And I'm totally shocked. KLOL was a Houston radio institution. They were the longest-running station to not change formats -- something like 34 years! Well, that run is over now. Like others here, I've been pissed since they broke up the old Stevens and Pruitt morning show. CC sucks!!
Am I the only one who thought both S&P and Walton and Johnson sucked? I guess I'm just not into poop jokes and *** stereotypes.
Rock 101 was the only station I listened to. This is horrible, there are too many ******* spanish stations. Believe it or not, there are still some English speakers left here in Texas. Just because the president speaks better Spanish than English doesn't mean we need to also.
