Tow things. One - Jeff - Do you get Tape-Op? If not you MUST! Two - and I don't mean to self promote - but the worst guitar solo ever created is in the OU Sucks song. It was intentional. When lonnie played it Frank and I were like, "Pretend like you are a kid that is 16 years old, in his garage, and thinks he's Eddie Van Halen. Better yet, you're a 40 year old guy that is a bass player in a sh!tty cover band that thinks he's Jack White and wants to prove to the world that he can shred and play lead!!" It's at the signature site.
If you have the mag have your wife enter the 100 worst leads. I want to see it. ( I know no dude will do it, maybe it's scanable) I agree fast fingers do not equal good playing. Jimmy Vaughn plays the simplest most offbeat leads, almost like a novice guitarist, but I always find them interesting.
Peter Buck from REM always has easy leads (almost always generic chords or with only two strings, one being open) but they're always interesting. Of course I'm speaking of the "pre-Losing My Religion" version of REM. Back when they were actually good.
Worst solo I ever heard was in "We're not gonna take it" by Twisted Sister. It's the exact melody, note for note! I don't know the name if that "guitar god", but he looks like Carla from Cheers.
I was looking at some websites for Houston area bands and I noticed that Molly and The Ringwalds have their version of that song available for a free download . I'm listening to it now. See - http://www.theringwalds.com/demo/
Anyone have a link to the entire list? They were talking about it on a local radio station and they said that one of SRV's solos was high on it. Thats pretty hard to believe.
I put SRV right up there with Jimi and Django, but I MUCH PREFER Jimmie Vaughn to his brother. A bluesier version of Steve Cropper or James Burton. Love his licks.
I've always been impressed with the solo in the Smashing Pumpkins song : Geek U.S.A. Is there anything special about this one or am I just a Pumpkins homer?
