I was thinking about this while reading the list, thinking it might make it.

How about "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"?

    Is that one?

I think that is a part of "Great Expectations" which was on the list.

Damn, I got my Dickens' novels mixed up. I guess it is safe to say that I was never a big reader. :( ;)

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."

"Wait, wait, which one was it?"

"it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity..."

"Boy this Dickens guy really liked to cover his butt."

and Manny with a major faux pas mixing up A Tale of Two Cities with Great Expectations. i gotta say, of all the books i ever had to read for school, ATOTC was one of my favorites. especially the whole "it is a far, far better thing that i do than i have ever done..." quote at the end.

after reading that Finnegan's Wake quote, i am reminded of the famous quotes thread someone posted a while ago that had James Joyce's wife saying "Why don't you write books people can read?" if that whole book is like the first sentence i would probably get about 2 pages in and then turn it into toilet paper so that i could actually get some use out of it.

edit: oh and shame on everyone for someone not eventually posting the contents of the list. i actually had to go ahead and click on a link.

"As I was born the umbilical cord tangled around my neck and I came into the world both arms flailing, unable to scream and thereby take in the air necessary to begin life outside of the womb, being garrotted by the very thing that had until that time succoured me and given me life." Death of a River Guide - Richard Flanagan.

"Harry Joy was to die three times, but it was his first death which was to have the greatest effect on him, and it is this first death which we shall now witness." Bliss - Peter Carey

I would go with "Who is John Galt?" for Ayn. I can't believe one of them didn't make it on the list.

Major faux pas? What are you, Mr. Manners? At least I admitted I screwed up instead of giving some weakass excuse. You're just sore because I trashed your movie, Big Momma's House 2. :p ;)
