I think Bosh is Morey's choice, because he doesn't figure the Rockets have any chance to land the other big fish. Makes sense to me. Bosh, Martin, and Brooks would nice core.

Bosh is a talented player but he is not an alpha dog,no matter how much he has talked about wanting to be the man. That is my biggest concern with him.
I would still welcome him, if it doesn't cost us too much. Toronto will jack up the bargaining price, since there will be many teams interested in him.

We still will need an aggressive, athletic defensive 5/4 who can score a bit in addition to a healthy Yao (who cannot be relied upon) and Bosh. There is an outside chance of it working out,but I'm skeptical about it.

What if Rockets offered J Hill, 2010 1st round (14th), Llull and JT + Jeffries' expiring? Raptors can rebuild fast with two low-teens picks this year (deep draft), last year's 8th pick, a couple of prospects, and possibly trade Jeffries at 2011 deadline for a talent (they already have $11m in expirings in Banks, Bellini & R Evans).

Raptors will basically have gotten a PG (Llull), a SG (Taylor), a SF/PF (Jefferies), a PF/C (Hill), and have two low-teens draft picks this coming year (including their own). They will also get more athletic (currently playing Calderon, Bargnani, Bellini & Turkoglu decent minutes), and the acquired players will have limited salary burdens (important because Calderon, Bargnani, Jarrett Jack and Hedo all have long contracts at fair to above mkt value and will be difficult to trade with the potential CBA).

Dallas can't really offer young talents on the cheap (only Barea, Beaubois is untouchable I think), Bosh plays same position as Dirk and won't be the man, plus we have better draft picks to offer than Dallas. And Rockets offer the prospects of better draft picks to come (Knicks deal) to continue to contend, as well as a better positional fit.

C - Yao/Bosh/B Miller (part of MLE) or D Andersen
    PF - Bosh/Scola/Hayes/Andersen/Alex Johnson
    SF - Ariza/Battier/Budinger/Alex Johnson
    SG - Matrin/Lowry/Budinger
    PG - AB/Lowry

Hill + 1st round pick + Llull seems steep price to pay, but can you imagine a PF/C rotation of Yao, Bosh & Scola, substituting Hayes for defensive purposes, Miller for offense & passing, and D Andersen for stretching the defense? And a PG/SG/SF rotation of AB, Lowry, Martin, Budinger, Ariza and Battier?

We will have gotten a great balance of youth and experience, althleticism and size, offense/defense. There won't be time for JT, and perhaps not much for Hill either. We could miss Llull down the line, but the Knicks two 1st round picks in 2011/12 (yes I know 2011 is just a swap option) could make us forget about it, all while we're in a position to contend every year.

The above will be our 13 man rotation (A Johnson likely the odd man out), and I think we can fill out our roster with a project PG and a project C, or take a look at our Euro stashes (Newley, Leunen, Eli-A-Hoooooo).

Overall, I do think we can offer a better deal than Dallas.

Chicago seems to be a great choice for Bosh, they have money to sign him up front or absorb him in a sign and trade where they don't have to match the entire sum of his deal.

He can play with Rose, who is better than Martin. Noah is perfect as a complementary center. Hinrich and Deng are defenders but they can also score. IMO that team would be championship contenders for a long time.

LOL, Hill + 14th pick + Llull, is a steep price to pay? Are you kidding me?

Hell I wouldn't even give you Andrea Bargnani for that package. You would have to give one up an coming *potential* star player, none of those players/picks fit into that bill. BTW, the Raps GM has gone on the radio before and let it be known what he would expect in a trade for CB4 (what he can get is possibly another story). It was quite a while ago, but he said one potential star player, starting rotation player, and picks.

You are looking at either Brooks or Martin + Hill + draft picks. Would you do it now?

I agree with you that the Rockets can put a nicer package togther than Dallas, but both teams have the assets to make it happen.

i don't like bosh, amare either, because i don't think they worth max salary...scola is a good, i love kevin love, who can shoot three and grab rebounds :p I want morey can sign and trade for wade or Iguodala, they are better defender and can go to free throw line frequently, and we just need a big guy who can defend, grab rebound, block shot, that's why i love kevin love..and he is cheap

ya a strong as ever supporting case consisting of
Barg (cant play defence if his life depended on it, and allergic to the key)
Jose Calderon (possibly the worst defender in the entire league any position)
    Hedo (pizza, pizza)
    antoine wright (thinks hes kobe)

look at how well they did without bosh at the end

This would be Toronto's starting lineup

    Calderon/Jack/Banks
    DeRozan/Budinger/Weems
    Turkoglu/Ariza or Battier
    Bargnani/Jeffries
    Hill/Johnson

Thar is not even including the 14th pick.

    Pretty good lineup moving foward.

    Rockets lineup after trade

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Taylor or MLE Guy?
    Ariza or Battier
    Bosh/Scola
    Yao/Bosh/Brad Miller?/Hayes

This is if Bosh agrees to come here

    What you think?

    I am the "real" ChrisBosh but I'm 6'3" 210Lbs. :)

I could see the Raps doing that trade for sure, but I don't think the Rockets will be willing to give up the farm like that. It's a more realistic offer than what other posters have been dreaming up....

I recall him saying that he wanted to play in Texas and not Dallas. This was i believe around the trade deadline.

Bosh will make the max and we will have to give up two of Jefferies, Battier and Ariza just to get into the ballpark of fitting the deal with Toronto, ideally we would want to send as much salary to Toronto as possible. Therefore I think it has to be something like Jeffries, Battier, Hill, Andersen a pick or two and cash (to pay for extra salary going back to Toronto for a year).

Why for Toronto: Andersen is an expiring and Toronto can try to use Andersen (and any of the other guys) to acquire more assets before the next deadline or let him expire and the cash will help them pay their salaries for the year. They would also get some very lucrative pick(s) via New York. They don't end up giving Bosh to a division rival nor a team in their own conference.

Why for Houston: Obviously, they get Bosh but Houston actually sends out more salary than they get which could offset some of the costs to re-sign Scola, Lowry and get a backup C (Brad Miller).

Why for Bosh: He gets to play with AB, Martin, Ariza and Yao. Martin wont need to many touches as he is very efficient. Yao wont be playing as significant minutes as he once did so Bosh would be the "Big Dawg". AB and Martin can space the floor for Yao and Bosh. He is closer to Home, but not at home. No state taxes (just adding it in there, I know its been beaten to death).

All of this is pure speculation, however I think that Morey and any good GM sees that sign & trades present opportunities for us to gain more valuable players than we have to give up. We need to be realistic about this as well, Lebron has made the playoffs and his team is decent. Bosh has not made the playoffs and his team is not as good, although Bosh is not Lebron. We likely do not have a shot at Lebron, but I think Bosh could be convinced to come to Houston and we should try to get him here.

Another reason I see us chasing another all-star is that Yao's days are numbered and the attractiveness to other free agents to play in Houston is tied to Yao, if we land another All-Star they will be able to influence future players to come to Houston themselves.

Damn, that's pretty tall. Congratulations, you're only 3 inches shorter than the Houston Rockets starting Center!

IMO, you're giving up way too much. A better deal would be Brooks + Taylor + Jeffries expiring + Battier and a 2011 or 2012 pick. You use that 14th pick to get one of the top 5 centers in the draft. Also this is a very deep draft for role players. Alot of gems are hidden low in the draft. They could get a defensive minded SG/SF and a PG fill out the roster. I say trade all of our euro assets because you rarely hear their names. They are almost invisible over in Europe, except Llull. Why isn't anyone talking about using theMLE to aquire David Lee?

"Being the man" is overrated. Bosh is the man in Toronto. And many other teams would too.

Rockets will be in play, but I don't know if they can get Bosh without giving up too much or even outbid other teams.

so we're going to trade our starting pg for a starting pf when we have one? makes sense. I'm glad you're not the gm.
if you seriously think toronto is going to trade us bosh without asking for hill or scola (hill being the more likely of the two), you might want to stop posting for awhile.

You're probably right, the players I put together don't add up to Bosh, and Toronto will want more. But who's going to offer a better deal? The difficulty for Toronto is that few (restricted) free agents will do a sign-and-trade to go there (weather & distance from home etc). So they must be an expiring, a youg talent/borderline star signed for a few more years at a reasonable contract, an underpaid player relative to production, or simply good draft picks.

Chicago has no large expirings, and I'm pretty sure Toronto isn't accepting Hinrich 2yrs @ $9.5m, or Deng 4yrs @ $10.3m. They'll probably take Gibson, but there isn't enough other salaries to match. Plus Chicago's 1st round pick is lower.

As for Miami? Also no expirings, and I'm not sure Toronto necessarily want Beasley given offcourt issues, or James Jones 3yrs @ 4.3m. And the Heat's 1st round pick is also lower than the Rockets.

Unless Bosh signs outright as a FA with another team, then the Rockets offer a package that few other teams have: willingness to go into the luxury tax, a combination of decent 1st round draft picks (2010 -14th, 2011 - right to swap with Knicks and 2012 own + Knicks), expirings (Battier & Jeffries), starter (Ariza), potential starter (Bud) & long-term potential (Llull, JT may be a stretch here), without giving up AB/Lowry, Martin, Scola & of course Yao. And the high likelihood of contender status with depth post trade (not New York) + with Bosh as the go-to man (not Dallas nor Cleveland), which the other teams don't offer.

The question is, what if Toronto wants more, plays hard ball and demands one of AB/Martin + Hill/picks? I think DM will probably take his same offer (with some tweaks eg by involving a third team) to Minnesota for Al Jefferson or Phoenix for Amare, or just wait until the trade deadline to make a move. Toronto probably has more to lose for not taking the best available offer, than the Rockets giving up more than fair value to get Bosh, as they have to trade in the offseason, or lose Bosh outright.

So the question is whether Hill + 14th pick + Llull + expiring the best Toronto will get? An 8th pick, a 14th pick, Llull (probably worth mid first round pick by 2011) + an expiring that Toronto can use in combination with their own $11m expirings for a potential star at the trade deadline, together with their own low-teens draft pick this year, doesn't sound too bad. Toronto could rebound back into playoff status very quickly, or at least save the GM his job for a couple more years.

If pushed, I think the Rockets will give up either of their 2011/12 first round draft pick - 2011 if there is no swap with the Knicks (probably 20s at best), and the lower of the Rockets/Knicks pick in 2012 if there is a swap with the Knicks in 2011. I think the Rockets will give up draft picks in this scenario rather than lose Chase.

First of all, I'm pretty sure the Rockets can't give up all three picks like that per CBA. With that said, Morey would do that deal in a heartbeat. Are you kidding me? Hill and Budinger may be "nice", but Morey can pull those players out of his ass with bought 2nd round picks. Not to mention the Rockets can replace one of them easily using part or all of the MLE.

If the Rockets can get Bosh without giving up Scola or Brooks, Morey would be doing cartwheels.
