There are some definite creeps in that video and she should have focused on them alone -- guys saying, "Hey, how are you" is not harassment. The majority of men in the video are also black so i'd find it interesting to see how she would react if some handsome white guys said some of the same general greetings to her -- I suspect she would stop and talk with them.

 

CNN was talking about this video and how its a controversy because most of the guys talking to her are black and hispanic. They also said they edited out the white guys. Im sure this is D&D worthy.

 

They should do one in Italy and then some random muslim country.

Well, your "handsome" qualifier creates a narrower contrasting group than blacks and hispanics, there's no reason to assume getting cat-called by whites all day wouldn't be as demeaning. It may be just as telling about blacks' thresholds for etiquette or personal space or disproportionate distribution in large cities. Maybe blacks' possible lower proportion of office jobs means they have a good ten-hour block in the middle of the day for catcalling. Maybe in a diverse enough city like New York blacks are less anxious about being rejected by non-black females.

To be fair in the wrong part of town or the country they would probably be beaten to death.

 

This video is a terrible example of how women face harrassement on the street which is a real problem. However, the makers behind this piece made several questionable choices in order to obtain desired results:

1. Chose an attractive female actress.
2. Made her wear the tightest black pants she could get into.
3. Walked around in some really shady streets in NYC.
4. Chose to edit out 10 hours of footage to show only black and hispanic men.
5. Demand a donation at the end to combat said harassment.

Now, this "social experiment" was pretty rigged to obtain desired results and in no way give an actual portrayal of what women so often face on the streets. This is fraudulent in nature and misleading at the very least.

 

I'd be interested to see how it would turn out if she wasn't wearing skin tight clothes. If you are dressing to impress, don't be a whiner about impressing people you didn't exactly want to impress. If you want to be ignored, dress accordingly.
