Well, the HDMI was not the only thing I was talking about earlier.

Like the posted article eluded to, the oldest mosels have heating issues that would cause many owners to REALLY think about leaving their systems on for a long time to do a lot of the things they are talking about doing. Hell, it takes hours upon hours to download the movies and shows they have on now.

I'm really not upset about it, but it just seems the trend is going in the direction that eventually I'm going to have to get a newer model to handle all the new features and/or hardware.

I still don't understand what HDMI is. Can someone explain HDMI to me in cave man? Seriously. I tried wikipedia and I still don't get it.

It is basically allows for the best picture and sound quality out of all the available interfaces (component, VGA, composite, etc.). It is uncompressed and all-digital, allowing for much less degradation than other solutions. It also has the necessary bandwidth to support 1080p resolution, or even higher (IIRC).

HDMI also supports DRM technology. This hasn't happened yet, but HD DVD and Blu-ray movie studios have the option of turning on a little switch on a HD DVD/Blu-ray player (called a ICT flag) when you're watching a movie that will basically restrict the resolution to 540p unless you are watching it via HDMI. IOW, if your TV did not support HDMI, you could not watch the movie in HD. This is their way of preventing piracy, although I hope it isn't ever necessary (not even sure why it would help).

So if you have the option of hooking up your video game console using HDMI or something else, use HDMI. Not sure if these links would be any better than Wikipedia, but they might help out if you have any more questions:
