For those who care, Phil Garner will be on SR610 tonight with Barry Warner and Shaun Bijani(sp?) at/during the 9 o' clock hour.

I think we should hire one of the following four candidates...

    Phil Garner
    Phil Garner
    Dave Duncan
    Phil Garner

Is that Barry "I have a man crush on Ced Benson" Warner?

I'll be listening....the more I think about it the more I want Scarp Iron to lead the 2010 Stros.

He hasn't come on yet, sounds like he might come on later because he is at sometype of gala.

FYI, Barry Warner is really really annoying but it is fun to listen the callers want to choke the dude.

    Astros coach Cruz not retained..

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6666398.html

Franchise icon Jose Cruz, one of the most popular coaches in Astros history, was shocked when Tal Smith and Ed Wade told him his services as a major league coach will no longer be needed with the club.

“I couldn’t say anything,” said Cruz, who played with the Astros from 1975 through 1987. “I couldn’t speak. I was a bit shocked. I don’t know how to explain it. I was a bit in shock. It’s not something you’d expect. I thanked them for 13 years. It’s been a long time.

“I thanked Ed Wade and Tal Smith and we hugged each other. I have to decide soon. I’m still thinking what I will do. They changed my position. They just told me they were going to change my position. My head wasn’t thinking at that point. I didn’t know what to say. I just said everything was fine. Nothing. I don’t know how to explain it. I couldn’t speak much because the words didn’t come out.”

Cruz, 62, said he was offered a role similar to the community outreach jobs held by Larry Dierker and Jimmy Wynn.

“I’ll be working like Larry Dierker and Jimmy Wynn,” said Cruz, who hasn’t considered whether he’ll accept the reassignment. “It was sad because I felt real good as a coach. That’s part of the front office’s decision. They’re making changes, and it’s bad luck that I had to be part of this coaching staff. It wasn’t just me. All the coaches were let go.”

Wade informed Cecil Cooper’s coaching staff that they were free to look for employment elsewhere when Cooper was fired on Sept. 21. Only third base coach Dave Clark, who was promoted to interim manager, was guaranteed a shot at the manager’s position.

Cruz, a native of Puerto Rico, has made his home in Houston since he joined the club in 1987. He raised his family here, sending two sons to star at Rice and a daughter to Texas A&M and eventually through law school.

His No. 25 has been retired since Oct. 3, 1992. Cruz just finished his 13th season as the first base coach of the Astros, serving Dierker, Jimy Williams, Phil Garner and Cooper.

Looks like Garner wont be on. And Barry is very annoying. Trying to pass his opinions off as facts.

And wow. Dare I say I'm shocked? Ok not shocked but he was the one guy I hoped stayed with the club as a COACH. I probably wouldnt blame him if he decides to go elsewhere. Anyhow, good luck to Cruz in any future endeavors, whether he stays or goes.

Yea, I am very suprised they didn't let the knew coach make the move. I understand organziations should not just follow the fan's voice but Cruz is really the last link to an era. He will be missed and right now I am very disappointed in the organization.

    All via twitter:

I dont get it. How can you say a guy will be back as a coach even if the a new manager hasnt been hired and that new manager hasnt hired his guys? I'm sure that will be a turnoff. "Well Dave Clark is going to be on your staff no matter what, deal with it." Yes Im assuming Clark doesnt get the job.

Ok now I am really confused...Clark comes back no matter what? I get the guy is a good coach and all but shouldn't the new manager have a say in the coaching staff? Berry back as hitting coach is a good move IMO and Robinson out as PC is also a good move but the Clark thing along with the Cruz news is just nuts...

Oh yeah, and [insert new manager name here], Sean Berry WILL be your hitting coach no matter what. Hmm makes me wonder. Could Phil be on his way back?

Would make sense but Scraps and Cruz where friends so I don't think he would have wanted to get rid of Cheo.

At this rate bring back Hickey, actually liked him as a pitching coach.

Hire Garner and bring in Melvin as his bench coach. Gring in Bogar to coach 3rd base. Then pay Duncan $1 mill per to coach the pitchers. Get 'er done. Make the big splash.

Yeah true. Isnt Hickey w/ TB now? I believe he is. Checked, he is w/ TB. Im not sure Wade and/or Drayton know what they are doing. I'm curious to see how they're going to sell to the managers interviewing that Clark and Berry will be back and they cant hire their own at those spots.

Sounds all fine but Duncan isnt coming here. Has no interest and is going to remain with La Russa in StL or wherever he goes.

If Tal Smith wants to do something, he should get rid of that stupid hill and flagpole out in center field.
