It was the trade that brought him here. While the I believe the rumor of the possibility of a Francis to Houston trade was already being discussed in advance there were no specifics as to who was involved until Popeye showed up and broadcasted (I believe) the exact details of the trade on the the old Clutch City forum one or two weeks in advance of it happening.

really? a month before it went down? i doubt it.

I can't recall whih big move he had the scoop on, but he nailed it the day before it happend.

I was on the board then, you weren't. Popeye knows something without a doubt.

Yeah, and um, not to mention OP's post does not say anything about "rising sun." It's setting. (edit: Otto beat me to it, b/c I could not quit thinking about the evil Suns' machinations!) :)

I am more and more convinced that we going to bundle some parts as the 3rd party in a big trade. The "not again" is that the parts are promising. Picture losing Hayes, Landry and Brooks along with Skip and Snyder. For one or two old guys, like Diaw.

Phoenix would love to unload that contract for a bunch of cheap promising guys, and they wanted to draft Brooks, a possible heir apparent when Nash retires... Ugh... (no, not saying Brooks is anything close to Nash, but who is?)

I just hope Adelman has a say. Wouldn't want him to have a Diaw unless he saw a good fit.

because last we had heard, his child(daughter iirc) posted to say he was sick and in the hospital.

then we heard nothing more for 4 years.

That saaid....and assuming that it *is* pops, WELCOME BACK! we missed ya.

the posting style is very similar, so Im inclined to believe he has just been very busy.

Maybe Pops was in LA for a while (partially but not completely out of the loop) but now came back. I would think that possibly someone in the East is getting sent to Califonia...probably involving a three way trade with Los Angeles. Probably Deng and Ben Wallace are going to maybe LA, Kobe is going to a team which will in turn give something the Chicago. I don't know what the third team might be...probably not Houston, right?

    (1) Sluggish,but a win is a win (2) oh,oh ... oh,no ... not again

    (1) It's hard to argue with T(rade)M(ark) hitting 40+, but they sure looked sluggish out there at times. Coach was not happy.

    (2) Did ya hear the one about the complaining star and the aging African being sent to the setting sun, for -get this- another complaining star and
an aging contract that will hurt rocket pockets for a long, long time?

    Hey Guys:

Out of touch for almost a year and a half, then out of country for several years, kept my hand in things in LA LA land and in southwest though -
so not completely out of circulation - but no posts for a number of years - (no not in jail! heh, heh) but ...

    (1) Team WAS sluggish, as is expected this time of year, but some specific players did not please RA. Strong words exchanged.

    (2) Yeah, scarry poop on this. To be honest, from what I gather it is fairly close but not solid, a lot of "trade me/no trade me"
phrases & clauses to fanangle the discussions.
I don't know if I like this or not, but defintely would add some sparks to the new season. We will know within a week if it is a go.

Trade Mark can mean target of the trade or target team or T Mac. But it wasn't TMac looking sluggish.

Complaining star doesn't sound like anyone on our team atm probably Kobe or Marion

aging African ???? I don't think its Deke so this one has me baffled

Setting sun probably is either Suns or California

I worry that WAS could mean Washington... but seatle is in Washington though I don't see them in any of this

didn't see the game but sluggish players = Rafer for his play or Yao... well Yao is sluggish

RA could be Rafer or Rick so who was displeased and who exchanged strong words?

I think the last part is just feelings and confirmation that a trade is in the works... all trades have "trade me/ no trade me" but the reference to
phrases and clauses just reinforces that Kobe is part of this.

I think that we are looking at a trade with at least 3 to 4 teams involved and we will be trading multiple players for older large contracts.
We will lose Yao or TMac and gain Marion or Kobe and something else. The fact that it's scary doesn't necesarily mean it's bad just risky. We all know Les likes risk.
I don't think Les would trade Yao but I don't think the Lakers trade Kobe for much less than Yao. Kobe and TMac together in RA offense is really exciting and "scary poop".
Kobe, Tracy, and Battier playing together would be crazy on defense.

The trade where we get Ben Wallace and Kobe seems more like what we are gonna see IMO. Lots of teams and lots of players moving around. I think the possible trade players are Rockets, Lakers, Suns, Chicago, and maybe Washinton based on the WAS in the post.

Gonna be tough to spend much time away from the laptop for the next week. It's really great to see a post from pops again, now all we need is a confirmation from Doc.

Maybe Arenas is part of the deal with the WAS capitalization.

    T(rade) M(ark)

Maybe he separated those words not only to get the initials TM, but maybe RADE ARK means something. Raiders of the Lost Ark, eh?

My other guess for "RADE ARK" would be a trade with the Clippers. Because a Clipper is a boat, which is kind of an ark, and if we get any Clippers players we would be "raiding" it.

I always read way too much into things. :p

Wow, talk about reaching. But dang this is fun.

You know what it is all starting to remind me of? Remeber the Elvis tapes? Where Elvis is talking on the phone to some chick?

It all reeks of conspiacy theory..... :D

Maybe the Rockets in the West are the setting sun.

Could a complaining star be Starbury? Just a wild guess...

    ...like who?

That's nothing on Yao...but I don't think there's any comparing Yao to Shaq in terms of the T-Mac vs. Kobe debate. I personally don't care if people think Kobe is better than T-Mac and all, but Yao is no Shaq for sure.

Last season he was hampered by injury so he wasn't as effective as he could be and the season before that ... the whole team should be blamed, yao and tmac especially.

Maybe Rafer Alston and Steve Francis are arguing over who should get traded. ;)

And of course, maybe Stevie doesn't understand the details of the CBA.

I don't think 1 and 2 are related. Our aging African can't be dealt till January and I've never heard of a trade in the middle of the season that was announced, but not completed for a few months. It would kill both teams in the mean time.

Okafor didn't get the contract that he wanted and doesn't want to stay in Charlotte, but I don't know if I would consider him to be aging.
