definitely had time to throw, the OL is awesome. The running game was clicking as well. The problem was a lack of a vertical passing game and calling the zone read too much = (both bad play calling) But I have to admit, OSU was the better team. Hopefully somehow UT will meet back up with them in the championship game
Anybody else having problems watching the video? Like updawg posted, the play calling was most suspect for the offensive problems. Colt had time in the pocket, the problem was that many of the pass plays were screens to Cosby or dump passes to our RBs. It's hard to say whether the WRs were open or not, but the play calling never allowed us to move the ball upfield like OSU was doing. It seemed like we were throwing more to the sidelines than up the field. Also, updawg pointed out another great point with calling the zone read too much. They have to realize that even though Colt has a decent set of wheels, the zone read won't be nearly as successful because Colt can't make people miss like VY did. I remember we called a zone read on a 3rd & 1 and it got completely stuffed. Nevermind that both Charles and Young were gaining very good yardage on regular run plays and where the hell was Melton?
I know I'm late chiming in on the conversation but Ohio State's defense looked real suspect against UT.
Click on the individual plays down below, don't click on the player screen. PS it wasn't so much the zone read as slow, telegraphed runs from the shotgun w/no lead blocker against full house defensive fronts.
I agree, tOSU have up a fair number of yards to UT, and No Ill as well. If they face a decently executing and balanced offensive team it will be up to their offense to outscore them. I still think Auburn-LSU is the real #1 versus #2 right now. Best combinations of destroy-you defense and excellent skill players on the offensive side of the ball.
