Guys, let's clam down a little bit. As long as it's a Rockets' bbs, I would like to say that we all wish the team does well, on top of that, if you are a Yao fan, of course you want him to do well. At least, we all should pretend that we wish the team well, instead of just one single player, be is SF3, Yao, or T-Mac, or even Boki:)

Some posts from both sides aren't that rational. However, let's take a step back to see why there are so many similar posts last night and today. My belief is that last night's game caused that. Nobody is expecting the Rockets beats everyone now, but it was a winnable game, in lots of people's eyes, although the Suns shot 3s like mad men. First, Yao created some mismatches and defended Amare very well. There is no point to argue whether Amare scored 1,3,5,7 points on Yao, he was limited. Second, T-Mac, Sura, Wesley's shots weren't falling. Just to suggest we might have ended up differently if Yao could shoot a couple of times more, isn't that insane an idea. Third, it was really arguable whether JVG fully took advantage in Yao by playing an uptempo shooting out game with the Suns, given the fact that Minny tried and failed miserably one day before. Yao was upset, for the loss, for not having the full chance to help the team. Fans were upset for the fact that we could have done better. Be it a Yao fan or no Yao fan.

You don't see that kind of response from Yao fans after past few games, win or lose. Last night was different. But on the other hand, I don't like the fact that some of the sharp critics added oil to the fire, and laid blame on Yao for his 20 something minutes play in the lose. I don't think that's fair. Not for last night. Just my humble opinion. Peace.

i dont know any chinese folks. i have never been to china. i dont even know a chinese person. i have met and talked to chinese-AMERICAN, but i dont know a single chinese person and i have never personally witnessed a chinese culture.

i said i form my opinions based on the information that i am given, then i decide whether it is worthy of consideration or not. i have read posts discribing chinese culture from chinese posters, and i have also read and watched reports on it. it seems like its reasonable, and the sources believable, so that is where i get my opinion. i didnt think that claiming that the chinese culture is one that teaches humility and the like, was a misconception, so that is what i posted. hip hop is said to be part of the black culture, and i see evidence of that from many black people. im sure there are aggressive and mean chinese people, but there is evidence that i am correct about chinese culture. maybe not??

I can't blame Sura and TMac for not wanting to go to Yao down in the low post. Sura and TMac thrive in the in the uptempo game.

Neither can I...honestly, if I were in their shoes, I think I would do the same thing and hope that the team can be successful playing my style.

You're walking a pretty tight rope right now. I'm slightly offended, but not enough to make a big angry post about it cuz you know me being Chinese, I wouldn't want to start any trouble.

Bottom line, lets cut the prejudicial stuff out and focus on the player, not his parents or place he grew up.

What's the success rate of Yao's post up shots minus the putbacks and the open layups?

i think the "humility" thing is more of a Western perception than anything else. I'm Chinese and know plenty of cocky, arrogant a-holes (from China). Never been there so I can't say for sure but I am confident that I interact with a lot more people from the CCP than you.

Yao sure didn't seem too obedient and humble during the Olympics. He yelled at his teammates, pissed off the CCP (the ULTIMATE authority in China, and and threw down that punk from New Zealand.

whoa. what does being humble and having humility have to do with not wanting to start any trouble?? you manage to tell me im wrong, but not care in the slightest to correct me. if someone had the wrong impression of my culture, and i was offended in the slightest, i would at least take a few minutes to give the correct point of view happy or angry.

for some of us who believe yaos temperment is whats holding him back, culture or environment is fair discussion. if you have better facts, then what better place to share them then a message board.

atta way. if you have better facts, share them.

whether it is a misconception or not, what i mean by culture is that it is a principle of living. the fact that the ccp came down on yao for doing that is what gives me the impression that the things i have heard are true. if a culture tries to shape behavior, it will have an effect on people to some degree. for instance, this country was founded on the principle of freedom. and it shows, because people of this country are seen as immoral and without much law. and in some way, its true. but that doesnt mean that there arent people whos personalitys arent different. there are subcultures of subcultures in this world. and they make us as different as the color of our skin. i may be mistaken to say that chinese culture believes in some old fashioned values that may have shaped the way yao thinks. but there is no mistaken that something has shaped yao, because in this country, if god gives you a gift, and everyone worships you for that gift, you believe you ARE god.

This is something I don't get, if the Rockets believe Yao is their future, shouldn't they try everything to help Yao to be successful? That would include force coaches to draw the plays to get the ball into his hand, get players who will pass him the ball.

It would be wonderful if Yao can become a nasty person, yell & slap the heck out of whoever refuse to get him the ball. But the reality is he isn't, and unlikely will ever be. Why cannot the Rockets, or the coaches try to force others to accomdate him? Yao was not dominating at all early in his CBA career, but he became a beast when the Sharks made it absolutely clear that every single plays had to run through him. The history showed it can be done. It just need some time, and some help from the organization and the coach/teamates.

I was being sarcastic in my first paragraph, and introduced anothewr prejudice about Asians, that we're quiet folks who don't like to start trouble. This is what happens when we talk about touchy feely subjects like racial misconceptions, everyone gets all tense and totally kills a thread

I didn't want to do this discussion right now because quite frankly its one I'd rather not have on a basketball BBS

because if you thought you couldnt do something, and your parents helped you do it every time you didnt think you could, what would you learn??

i think if the rockets have to MAKE him into what they want, hes no good to them, he doesnt learn anything. i think the real payoff is if he learns it himself on his own. then maybe he truely believes it down to the bone. the franchise, fans, and media have given him the verbal support, and told him where his problem lies, but its him that has a hard time correcting it. then he starts to doubt himself. but the rockets arent going to keep holding his hand and showing him the way. at some point he is going to have to find it on his own. they show him by not trading him, and probably committing him to a long term franchise contract.

chinese philosiphy teaches us that.... (just kidding hotballa)

    anyway, that is daddys belief.

Totally agree with you. I don't get the sentiment from some of the posters. More like, we don't really like you, or your way, but if you can success on your own, well, I am still a Rockets fan, props for you, and lucky us. But if you want my support for your suceess? No way, you know, it's NBA, it's tough, put up or shut up, take it like a man, blah blah blah. Seriously, I don't get it. If he's a project, if he has great potential, well, support him, help him to become a great one.
