Assuming this crabby trade is actually legal ... ask yourself a question: Why the heck does Denver not use the money to get O'Neal, Payton, Odom themselves instead of taking the scrubs u propose to throw away? They can then keep their darn 2nd round pick too!
Perhaps I'm just a bit dense, and need an explanation. I don't see why this trade would not be allowed under the CBA. The Rockets are over the cap, but they are trading down in salary, not up, so they shouldn't be constrained by the CBA. Denver is going way up in salary, but they can make uneven trades as long as they stay under the cap. So, I don't know what the problem is. The proposal is outlandish and likley would never happen. But, it does have a beauty to it. Denver can probably do better things with its cap space then that, but they would be getting a lot of talent cheap. Houston would have no bench at the end of it, and the free agent pick-ups forecasted are way too optimistic; but our cap situation would be a lot better and we'd still have our core. So, I kind of like the idea, even if I'd never pull the trigger on it.
Yeah, but who starts, Bruce Banner or Hulk. Too unpredictable. Maybe go with that Rock guy from Fantastic 4. He's soft on the inside, but tough on the outside.
These players are somewhat valuable to us on the floor. But, their value is negated by their cap hit (except for trade bait Mobley). We can probably, over time, find other players who contribute as much but for less money. They aren't core players on our team; they are only role players. And, it is quite probable that given the shift in our core (with the addition of Yao) and the shift in coaching philosophy (with VG), we'll need to change out our role-players for better fits anyway. As I've said, I think Denver probably has better things to do with its cap space. But, given the youth of the team, they may find it worthwhile to have these vets to mentor the team and to prop it up during its rebuilding. And, our guys would start coming off their books as their young franchise players really start reaching respectability. So, it doesn't seem ridiculous to me that Denver would actually want those players. It is likely Payton, O'Neal and Odom would sign some place else. But, we wouldn't be ruined. Our core of Francis and Yao is still here and we'd have a lot of flexibility to build around them. There are other FAs and the space also makes trades easier. I believe he addressed that by saying FAs wouldn't want to go to Denver anyway. That probably is true for the likes of Payton and O'Neal. I do think though that there are plenty of other FAs that will seriously consider moving to Denver. But, if they strike out in the offseason like Chicago had, they might be better served by doing a deal like this then sign the Eddie Robinsons and Mercers of this FA class.
How about delayed gratification. Trade Cato and Moochie to Minnesota for Terrell Brandon. Trade MoT to Portland for Sabonis. Both will retire, and we free up cap space new summer for Kobe (especially with Rice and Maloney coming off the cap).
It is not easy to give your bad contracts away. Trade rule applies when you are over the cap. It is possible to exchange your bad contracts for others' bad contracts hoping you will get some players you will have more use of.
My guess is we could get the xmen (or similar mutants) to be the bench Cyclops could provide that deadly court vision as the PG Beast could be the bruising PF we've been looking for I guess get Stretch Armstrong (not part of the xmen) to be the back up center The non human starters (AI2 and KG ghola) don't really need back ups.......seeing as how AI2 the robot would have 100% accuracy so we would just keep him out there
The 115% plus $100,000 rule only applies for teams over the cap. So, it applies for the Rockets but does not apply for the Nuggets who are way under the cap.
