I apologize for bumping an old thread, but as I move some of these to their correct forums I've found some gems. It's really hard to believe that the Celtics got both Allen and Garnett without giving up Paul Pierce. The trade value of "potential" players can be amazing.

I was wondering what got an old thread bumped. I hadn't thought about it, Clutch; but you're right. It's amazing that the Celtics pulled that off and kept Pierce. Course they don't have a bench-even in the East. :D

but if u think about it, even last year, after Paul Pierce and Al Jefferson, they didnt have a bench back then either and they STILL manage to get KG and Allen, crazy....

They trade away their entire future and put all their chips on the table: Draft picks, yound talents, Al Jefferson...
If they cannot win a championship in the next three years they will be doomed for two decades more.

Only makes us look that much stupider, they parlayed the "future potential" of Jeff Green into ray allen, all we could get for gay was battier.

It's not going to be two decades. They didn't trade away their first round pick in 2017. If the GM is competent (which I doubt will be the case), after the 3 ages and retires, they would have huge salary cap room to make a run at two max player or several young good players, and they would spend some time at the bottom of the NBA so that they can also get a few lotto picks. With the cap space the 3 will free up and some good picks, they can get back on track pretty fast. Although I doubt Ainge is smart enough for that.
