Unless you have a time-machine, he never will. But at least let him finish his career before you make your decisions on how "great" KG will become.
I didn't decide how great he will become. We were referring to the success both players have achieved at similar points in their careers. By their 8th seasons, Hakeem stands as the more accomplished of the two. That is all. As far as I am concerned, Hakeem accomplished two things that no one else in this league has ever done : Won a championship virtually on his own(Duncan...possibly) and beaten the combination of Pippen and Jordan in their primes(Not to mention Kukoc, etc...)
KG was doomed since the Minnesota "Joe Smith" debacle; their franchie was penalized; fined. They were hamstrung by not being able to sign talent to help KG. Many years wasted. Hakeem had some help in 86 (2nd year). Akeem's 1986 team.... RALPH SAMPSON LEWIS LLOYD JOHN LUCAS ROBERT REID RODNEY MCCRAY Hakeem did not win a title in his 8th season. He did it in his 10th. Also note that KG is only 28. So, he's got more time. Spree and Cassell are necessary parts of the equation. Just as Drexler, Sampson or Maxwell were for Hakeem. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
I have no clue either. I guess it's supposed to mean that since Hakeem beat Jordan/Pippen in the regular season, that's supposed to mean that KG wouldn't have done the same.
Why? KG had already played more basketball by 18 than Hakeem had by the time Hakeem was 22. Mental lapse...I meant to say his '95 Rockets team is the only team to win a title while the Pippen and Jordan were together in their primes.
Again, I never implied that Hakeem won a title in his 8th season. I simply named a few other accomplishments that KG must achieve if he would like to be included in the company of Hakeem. Garnett and Hakeem have somewhat similar post games, though Hakeem would block that shot 6/10 times if KG doesn't start using some variation(Fadeaway jumper every single time), but comparing their accomplishments is baseless.
Lucas was booted after about 65 games. That, with injuries at the 1 (Leavell) got so bad that Bobby Joe Reid played the point during the playoffs. He did a damned fine job, amazingly enough.
KG has had the luxury of playing with great PGs his whole career - Marbury, Brandon, Cassell (all of whom were traded for each other in 99). And Gugs and Sczerbiak both made an All-Star appearance with the T-Pups. Garnett's definitely had talent surrounding him.
True, but, in the case of Wally at least, Garnett created many of Wally's opportunities. That's at least one way in which KG is similar to Hakeem...both create opportunities for the perimeter players.
