That was the start of the injury plague which cursed the Tmac-Yao era, the Rockets would've definitely beat Dallas if Sura was healthy for the whole series and J.Ho wasn't out for the season. Bobby Sura - David Wesley - Jon Barry had some sick chemistry together and were very a feisty and tenacious group of role playing guards...without a healthy B.Sura and J.ho though we sorely lacked secondary scoring.
i dnt think you watch the rockets enough...you're making this more difficult than it is. Chuck is a good defender because he denies deep position. Yao doesnt need deep position against a defender 1 foot shorter than him. He just needs to turn and shoot. Very few centers have the height and shooting combo Yao has, which is why they struggle against chuck. Yao would probably give chuck 40. just a bad matchup all around.
WTF. when did you start watching the nba?? Najera isnt great offensively, but he's definitely better than chuck. Najera is also taller and longer than chuck. Najera is also a solid and scrappy defender. He doesnt quite fit the "small center" category you're refering to. That was just a very random reply, when exactly did he have trouble and how many times?? It's Najera. I can't imagine it's even been multiple times.
04-05 team would destroy this current team, It wouldn't even be close! Doesn't even compare, 04/05 McGrady(25yr old)/Yao(24yr old) vs. 09-10 Brooks(25yr old)/Landry(26 yr old)...you've got to take the team with the young all-stars Spoiler (at the time ) --RB
calm down man im not trying to fight you here tough guy, im only saying any quicker man center or not, short or tall gives yao troubles especially when he is fronted, and Chuck hayes will definetly do that all day long, and you KNOW yao wont score crap when he is fronted.. heck even if yao turns around and shoots, chuck hayes knows when to knock the ball out of an offensive player's hands right when he shoots similar to karl malone
Yao has trouble against smaller and quicker centers that can front him. Chuck is known for not allowing a player to back him down not for fronting.
do you not understand that the typical "small center" in the nba isn't chuck hayes? HE'S LIKE 6'6, MAYBE 6'7. When people say small centers give yao trouble they mean the ones that are just under 7 feet, so they aren't stiffs, yet still tall and long enough to challenge him Yao on shots and the boards and have more quickness. Chuck is small power forward, at center he's practically a midget. Fronting won't work. chuck doesnt even do that well because he's TOO SHORT. You need to look at the variables here instead of blindly applying all the things you hear on TV or read in the newspaper. It's not as simple as Yao always sucking when fronted, you have to take into consideration who is doing the fronting and how effective they are.
fronting only works if the other team has an athletic center/power forward that can deny the lob. If you watch chuck, he doesn't get off the floor much higher than Yao, so the lob would work.
04-05 not even close. Yao ming would have a field day with hayes on him. he don't even need to do any moves, just turn and shoot. tmac would own as well. the 04-05 tmac was incredible
04-05 squad. Mac avg. almost 26 ppg that season. Yao at that time was just a couple years away from that 06-07 season where he was just putting up buckets. To much talent for our team now. Chuck would get dominated, Mac would show Tmac what a basketball player really looks like. And that's the end of the story.
Definately the 2004-05 squad but I don't think it would be a blowout. If the current squad plays up to their ability they will give the 2004 squad problems. The current squad can't match up with the younger Yao or McGrady but the previous squad couldn't match up with Brooks, Scola or Landry while the wide open style of Adelman ball would give the JVG squad problems. Also the depth of the current squad would give the previous squad problems. JVG would need Yao and T-Mac to go the whole 48 minutes to pull out the victory as once those guys sat the current squad would make a run.
Not even close. 04-05. The McGrady/Yao pick and roll might have been their only offense, but as we saw against the Phoenix Suns (with the Nash/Stoudamire pick and roll), it would dissect the current Rockets defense.
