I have not seen the new movie, but I believe that Le Chiffe was trying to throw Bond off the trail of who really betrayed him. At the end of Casino Royale M made a comment about Mathis being innocent, but Bond was not ready to buy it yet.
I never said a thing about how well it resembled Bond from the novels nor did anyone else as far as I can tell. I said it didn't feel like a Bond MOVIE - frankly I don't care if it resembles the novels or not. I know its a reboot, but when you get 30+ movies that fit one mold (including Casino Royale in my opinion) and then this one which was completely out of that mold, it seems like it is no longer a Bond movie. These books were written 30+ years ago - while the director may be trying to get back to intent of the books, how many people in the audience do you think have actually read the books? And again, you miss the point - if this movie actually had a story, that would be one thing - but it didn't. Perhaps you're filling in the gaps because you've read the books, but if you watched the movie with no bias you'd realize that there was very little story. It was like watching a watered down Bourne movie - and to me that isn't what a Bond MOVIE is supposed to be like.
What do you mean there's no story? First of all, this movie is not based on any Bond book, so you don't need to have read them to no what's going on. It's a direct sequel to Casino Royale, it picks up literally minutes after Casino Royale ended, all you need is to have seen Casino Royale to know what's going on and even then they still explain things to remind you. In anycase, a reminder: So QoS starts like 20 minute after the last scene of CR as he's bringing Mr. White in for questioning about the orginization he and Le Chiffre work for, the one that forced Vesper to be a traitor. After finding out just what this group is capable of by having placed a sleeper agent as M's personal body guard, they start to investigate them based on the only lead they have, the marked bills introduced into Le Chiffre's banks. Which leads Bond to finding Mr. Greene and his plan for Bolivia and it's water supply which I admit is kind of dumb when there's tons of natural gas they could have been stealing instead. But it is a story nonetheless.
Just watched the movie in Australia, Few points 1. I still prefer the old bond movies, where its more light hearted and has more romantic rendevous. 2. This movie didnt even have Bond getting new gadgets = WTF thats the only reason I watch Bond movies 3. the THeme song only came up AT THE END. I waited an entire film for it. 4. Bond didnt bed any girl, there was a scene where he kissed the english chick on the back, that was it. 5. the line "shaken not stirred" was not in the movie Call me old fashioned, I am stil a sucker for cheesy films only if its bond films. RIght now, as someone before me have mentioned, its a Bourne film (except english). Not impressed. The story btw was hard to follow and lacking to say the least, and water? oh please.
