Casino Royale was a bit of an origin movie. My expectation is that, over a series of sequels, Craig's Bond will slowly transform from the gruff "blunt instrument" to the more sophisticated Bond you know and love (yes, with some rough edges and anger management issues). At least, that's what I'm hoping, since that "journey" would be very interesting to watch.
No more over the top gadgets or cheesy story lines about overly-creepy maniacal men trying to take over the world... I like the more realistic direction the new [Daniel Craig] Bond movies are headed. This should be great.
Jeez people seem to be really touchy about these 2 bond movies... Anyway your right, i don't even know much about guns and after re-watchin' the trailer that was obviously not an AK. I'm just not very excited to see this one, just how i feel about the movie. I'm not the hugest fan of reboots either, though.
Don't the original books depict a grittier atmosphere than the movies? As for the new Daniel Craig series, I'm digging them. I would literally fall asleep during the Pierce Brosnan movies. It just seemed too over the top, like a parody.
BTW....I think that gun is an UMP. At least I hope it is--it looks HUGE; I'd hate to carry around that big of a gun--even with the silencer--to have it only shoot 9mm. The UMP at least goes up to .45
To me, it doesn't really matter who is playing the Jame Bond role, I have to see the Bond movies, every one of them. As soon as this one come out, I will go watch. Like others said, I like Pierce Brosnan as an actor and he probably is the slickest Bond too, but his Bond movies (other than Golden Eye) were just terrible. Casino Royale turned everything around. It was fantastic. Easliy the second best Bond movie ever. ("Goldfinger" is still the best). BTW, you guys should all go watch Timothy Dalton's bond movies: The living daylights, and the Licence to Kill. They are not the best Bond movies but they are soo underrated.
From Russia with Love is probably the quintessential Bond flick with regards to the novels... heck, with regards to the movie franchise, until Daniel Craig became Bond. Craig is easily the best Bond since the early Sean Connery films. If they continue to build on Casino Royale and make them better and better, instead of starting out with a bang and going downhill, as the first ones did, Daniel Craig has a shot at replacing Connery as my favorite Bond. That's the highest praise I can give. I'm really looking forward to Quantum of Solace!
The only thing that annoys me is that they kept Judy Dench as M. It's like bringing back Pat Hingle as Jim Gordon instead of getting Gary Oldman for the new Batman movies.
It was a jolt having her as M, but I became used to her. I'm glad they brought her back. I like the continuity.
Definitely. Casino Royale's 2nd half is very faithful to the novel(aside from replacing baccarat with poker). I was really surprised to see them include the scene where Le Chiffre tortures Bond.
Funny "proposed" theme song from a UK radio show. I think both hosts did their own, but this is the funnier one and somebody made a video to it: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMoJRLStD9c&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TMoJRLStD9c&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Ditto...I probably won't be salivating as much with QoS like I did with TDK, but can't wait for QoS to come out... Casino Royale was my favorite Bond to date too. The reason why is because I liked the origin story (which really wasn't an origin story because we really didn't get a background on Bond) and we saw the transformation of Bond into 007...a lot like Batman Begins set up the sequel, I hope QoS transitions smoothly from Casino Royale to QoS
Not to mention, this is a return to what the original Bond film character (and the character from the novels) was: a tough, mean sumbitch who had the appearance of being sleek, classy, and cool. Watch Dr. No again. Can you imagine Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan twisting some girl's arm behind her back until she cried out in pain? Or shooting an unarmed man, who just ran out of bullets? James Bond is not a nice guy. He's a killer. He's not champagne. He's vodka. Straight up.* * Or, more accurately, he's three measures of Gordon's, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet, shaken very well until it's ice-cold, then adding a large thin slice of lemon peel.
