“This team is much better than anyone thinks we are” https://twitter.com/jtgatlin/status/1583652544513216513?s=46&t=XBE5ZvktWAIfjeS0W-JDIg ""The main thing is we're gonna be super hard to play against on both ends on the floor." https://www.google.com/amp/s/spacec...from-stephen-silas-rafael-stone-media-day/amp - Stephen Silas
He does indeed look like a character from Dumb and Dumber and it does not really help his public appearance.
This man is a fraud. He only got to where he is now through nepotism. His father was a former player --> head coach and then hired his son as the youngest assistant coach ever when he had no experience. They proceeded to coach the worst team in NBA history (only 7 wins). This is his pedigree.
I wouldn’t go that far. Several coaches in this league didn’t have experience as any coach including Spoelstra who was a video coordinator for the Heat. Nick Nurse had no coaching experience but was hired to be head coach of a small college to start his career. And Steve Kerr had zero coaching experience but got the nod to coach the Warriors. To say Silas only got to where he is due to nepotism is accusatory and would say that he isn’t qualified which you have no evidence that he isn’t qualified over other potential candidates. You need to get your start somewhere and everyone in this world has been helped through networking in some fashion. Besides Silas worked for Don Nelson and Wizards as a scout as well. The guy knows more basketball than any of you on this board. I don’t think he can get this team to the next level but its not all on him. The personnel simply sucks and I would say its a combination of timing, Management, coaching, and the players. Coaching can only get players so far especially at the pro level.
Being 1-5 is one thing, but another thing to note is that they have only covered the spread one single time this year while being an under dog on every single game, so even when they lose, they are not losing in a way that shows they are out performing deep analytics done by quantitative bookmakers, they have under performed significantly, by covering only 16% of the time.
It needs to be defined improvement. Meaning goals set and achieved. More NEEDS to be going on other than WINS / LOSSES. Would be great if goals were made public.
Silas is deemed a "players coach" that's cool & all when you have established vets but not rookies and 2 year guys still finding their way in the league his read and react offense is more suited for established players who understand the game better and its clear he doesn't have a defensive philosophy i.e. Dantonio He's also had the privilege to coach some all time greats but most teams he's been on have been trash other than Dallas
Stone's metric for success this year is not wins and losses, but "how hard we are to play against." Got it. He's all in for the tank. I hope Adam Silver doesn't get suspicious.
IN HIS THIRD YEAR Jason Tatum was 23.4 pts 4 asst 7 rebs ---- 3rd Pick in the Draft Jalen Brown was 13 1 and 4 ------- 4th year (20.3 2 and 6) ---3rd Pick in the Draft Are those Type players on our team? Jalen Green (Year 2) and Jabari Smith (year 1) - Are they those type of guys #2 and #3 respectively *IF* they are . . . why are they deferring to the 30th pick? So I ask . . . HOW BIG OF A STEAL does Silas and the Rockets think KPJ (Year 3) is? I mean . . . 20+ shots a game and "he could get it more" . . . . Someone explain it to me like I am a 4 yr old. (I DON'T HATE KPJ but . . . .. Development is key here) Do we think this is KPJ's Jason Tatum year? Rocket River
