Good thread. I'm trying to get all my drinking in before it's too late, so I'll try some of these. Lately I've just been downing Lucid Absinthe like a mofo.
I put in new contacts this AM. I guess I have eye gunk in both of them, vision has been blurry all day. I didn't say anything the first time but now this is the THIRD time that I've read the thread title as - Homicide Cocktails. And I giggle every time too.
Orchata cinnamon creme rum and any coffee/espresso vodka (Van Gough is preferred) in just about equal parts (a bit more of the Orchata). The drink is called a Lumpy Martinez. Its similar to a White Russian, but its entirely alcoholic. Serve in a low-ball glass with ice all the way to the rim (it will melt quickly).
La Paloma 3 oz. tequila (blanco, or whatever you like) Juice of half a lime 3 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice (they have this at Specs) 3 oz. seltzer (Topo Chico) 1 pinch salt Lime wedge, for garnish
Watermelons are in season Core out a seedless melon, mix in some lime, grand marinier and tequila. Serve over crushed ice.
The caipirinha is my favorite summer/vacation drink. Super simple. 2 oz cachaca (rum made from raw sugarcane) 1/2 lime sliced into several small wedges 1 teaspoon of sugar Put the sugar in an old fashioned glass, toss the lime wedges in and muddle. Or to save a little time squeeze them first and then toss them in. Muddle until the sugar dissolves. Not traditional, but I prefer brown sugar which makes the sweetness smoother IMHO. Add the cachaca, crushed iced, stir, and you have one of the most popular (and best) drinks in many parts of the world. I'm not sure why it hasn't caught on here like the mojito. I've also seen it offered with vodka instead as a variation.
I'm a White Russian guy, myself.... ...but if you are serving beer, may I suggest Squatters Craft Beer Hop Rising six packs. 9% alc/vol, smooth, excellent taste and you don't need much to "get there"....and they sell them at HEB for >$9/six pack. ...did I mention they're 9%alc/vol???

Dip the rims of two glasses into the honey. (you want only a very thin layer) 2. Place salt, paprika and cayenne (if using) onto a plate and stir together with a fork until combined. Finish rimming glasses with salt mixture, fill with ice and set aside. 3. Fill a large shaker partially with ice followed by the remaining ingredients, except for the jalapeno. Close and shake until well mixed. Divide mixture among the two prepared glasses and finish with lime wedges, black pepper and jalpaenos (if using). Puree until smooth. Add seltzer water.
I think its catching on. I know a few places that keep cachaca stocked, and I drink the **** out of them at every opportunity. Another good tidbit for the home bar is that cachaca is cheap. Caipirinha is an excellent drink to have at home. Super easy to make.
I could kill for a michelada with a Modelo and one of a local business' michelada packets! But no, my cocktail as of now is plain water. (Currently expecting baby #2)
