Do you like the signing of Marcus Thornton to a one-year, vet minimum deal? Adding a poll to this thread...
Pretty sure this means very little as for Houston's other moves. Thornton is a minimum wage signing made in the offseason, so the opportunity cost for this is nearly zero. The offseason roster size limit is 20 and teams have an unlimited number of minimum wage exceptions available so getting Thornton means no more than the Rockets taking a look at him and see what he's got during training camp and preseason. Even though the money is guaranteed, even making the final 15 roster is not. Morey has cut many guys with guaranteed money in the past.
Of course it is not a big splash, but why band aid move?? He is a good scorer and pretty great spot up shooter from the corner 3 - pretty much all he needs to do with Harden as the playmaker. He is also decent at creating for himself. At vet-min, there is no downside really. Plus this team needs guys who are capable of going on small scoring binges every now and then. I really like this move!!
So James Harden doesn't create open shots for his team-mates? This guy is a proven combo guard and can actually finish at the rim unlike Terry, he was signed for the Vet. Min. not like he's going to be eating up a ton of cap-space and hinder our ability to get a PG, Morey isn't finished yet. I really like the signing, Thornton can get hot and drop 20-30 on any given night.
Band aid move because it's a one year vetmin to a player that is nothing special. The move isn't a downside, the philosophy behind it though..it's dissapointing. Yet again next year finding pgs off the scrap. Meh. I didn't vote actually.
He is a bad defender and his assist number is just as bad and laughable as Kanter. He is the shorter version of Kanter, and a much worse offensive player of course. The only difference is he is at minimum and Kanter is at max.
Does this put us over the top? No, but I don't think any vet min signing ever does. Marcus Thornton could actually be our best shooter, and could be a valuable bench scorer. I love the signing because even if it doesn't work its just a minimum signing.
yea I don't think he's finished just nothing exciting about this deal. And James Harden is not enough playmaking on his own.
If he is the best shooter of this team right now, then Morey should be fired. He is nothing more than a bit more experienced Troy Daniel and can penetrate a bit more.
Did any so called insider predict his? yeah I thought so. Morey has a 100 works in progress and no one really knows who he is targetiing
He can score. A one year contract isn't bad at all. I am not sure why he struggled with the Suns. Can someone shed some light on this?
Great value addition for vet minimum. 3pt shooting from the corners. No guarantee he makes the final roster though. Remember Reggie Williams from 2 seasons ago? But, nice to have. If trades happen, might need that extra depth.
Marcus Thornton is a really nice pickup at a great price. On another note, Sac Kings are near to signing Bargnani. Does that make their signing of Josh Smith less likely?
