Meh, I'm not devastated. Too inconsistent. He was better than TJ without a doubt though. We'll see if TJ improves this summer or not.
He beasted during the playoffs, that's for sure. We'll see what Morey comes up with though before I get antsy.
Smith to Dallas isn't a done deal and I really don't see it happening. Carlisle clashed with Rondo, a close buddy and similar personality to Smith. Unless Carlisle leaves Dallas immediately, I don't see Josh going there. It would mean leaving a system where he gets to free flow for a regimented one, and he leaves his childhood friend and teammate for a division rival.
And he may very well do that. Many options Cuban and Nelson are working on. Kanter max offer is also a possibility per someone I know there. Lots happening there tonight and that group.
How funny would it be if the Mavs tied up 12 mil worth of capspace for KJ McDaniels and another 12 or so mil a year to Smith? Sure the Rockets would lose out on them, but wouldn't that be sort of worth it?
McCallum to the Spurs makes it fairly unlikely the Kings move Collison, IMO (if it wasn't already). I thought they might want to develop Ray, but I guess not.
I can see Cuban giving McDaniels a poison pill contract, but Josh Smith is unlikely on multiple levels. Not young, plays Dirk's position, doesn't fit in a rebuilding project, and will clash with the existing coach's style of play. Then, Josh will call Rondo for advice on playing for Carlisle, and he will say thanks but no thanks. The Kings are a bigger threat to sign Smith than Dallas unless Carlisle leaves immediately.
If the Mavs did either the poison pill for KJ or huge contract at Smith it would be done completely out of spite. 12 mil a year for 4 years is a bit hard to justify for KJ McDaniels as of right now and you are right about Josh Smith not really fitting the Mavs. That said, doesn't that sound like something Cuban would do? Petty and spiteful is kind of how he runs the show is it not?
At least in McDaniels case you can sell him as part of a rebuilding project, though he has no business getting that kind of money. With Smith, you can't. And considering his friendship with Rondo, I'm not convinced any amount of money would make him willingly agree to play for Carlisle.
Faried is who is he is. Nothing is changing. He's an energy player that's it. People got all overhyped when he played for team USA.
