I will never forget The Summer of YoYao. And the feuds of today just don't compare to the old days of T_J vs samfisher, FFB vs. BJ, etc. I know it will never happen, but I wish Clutch would reinstate FFB just so I could read his weekly incoherent callout thread every Monday morning like I used to.
Those were always hilarious. I think he tried to fight everybody on the hangout at least once. You can still find him arguing with people about whether beans belong in chili on the Houston Press website. Of course, once he blamed me (and others like me) for LandlordLandry's death, it kinda became less funny and more sad.
Yeah that was the last straw for me. After that I had to block him from Facebook. Some people are not good drunks.
Before JOF, before YOF, before Quitten and SF3 and Tracy McLady, before Clutchfans, there was the clutchcity forums. It was (and still is) the best fan site on the net. But the sense of community has changed with time. It used to feel a lot more like a discussion among a group of friends. I remember the first get together in Austin, when was it? 1998? 1999?
1996 message board started as Clutchcity. 1998/99?, Clutch gets threatened with lawsuit over the copyright of the name Clutchcity by Les. Named changed to Clutchfans. 1999 Server migration and crash. Nothing exists before 1999 except old box scores from 1991 I think. Although they were created after 1999. 2000 Jeff starts SaveOurRockets, Clutch and Clutchfans play a huge part. 2002 Yao joins Rockets, Clutchfans forever changed. I think those are the major milestones.
I'm not sure that is accurate, because I remember when the site was clutchcity, and I didn't join until 2001. Or maybe I lurked before then? Hell, I may have even had a 99'er account this whole time and just forgot about it
I remember feeling bummed when the change happened. I was really attached to CC.net. I found this site the Summer before Quitten.
That'd be an interesting topic thread (which I'm sure has been started before) I had a buddy from middle school tell me about the forum back in the summer of 2004 when I was in college at UT (hence the moniker). This was during the buildup to the eventual T-mac for Francis/Mobley/Cato trade.
Spent plenty of time in the UH computer labs on alt.sports.basketball.nba.hou-rockets back before Napster.
I found Clutchcity.com on the first night that I ever "surfed" the internet using AOL dial up on my dad's computer. I think that pretty much since 1997 I've checked the hangout almost every day of my life. As you can see I haven't posted much. Before Facebook and social media, the hangout had been my finger on the pulse of pop culture and anything truly newsworthy. Now its a better filter of all of the videos and memes posted on my Facebook feed. I'm sincerely grateful for this site.
I remember the days where contributing status didn't give said members a sense to entitlement or superiority and was a last resort argument when they didn't have anything good to respond back with.
TJ and Kagy were epic trolls, like a master violinist playing a Stradivarius. Macbeth and FFB...awesome members. Cant believe that was 10+ years ago. They must be brazillionaires now. I found playboy.com first like in 95, thinking that p*rn was gonna be like that on the net and how cool it was. A couple minutes later, it was clutchcity from a yahoo search...
