    Les Alexander used to rank in Forbes top-400, but no longer. And I count at least 14 other NBA owners with more money than him. That puts him most likely in the have-nots of the NBA with something less than $1.3b. So when he goes into the luxury tax to re-sign Parsons to a big contract to keep the Big Four intact, remember the sacrifice he's making. Maybe we can take up a collection.

    There are 32 professional sports teams owned by those on Forbes' Richest 400 Americans list, which was published Monday.

    The richest sports team owner is Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen of the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Seahawks.

    Allen is the 26th-richest American and is worth $15.8 billion, according to Forbes.

    The list features more NFL owners than any other league.

    There are 14 NFL owners among the top 400 richest Americans. Besides Allen, they include:

    • Stan Kroenke (Rams, $5.3 billion)

    • Stephen Ross (Dolphins, $4.8 billion)

    • Malcolm Glazer (Buccaneers, $4.5 billion)

    • Shahid Khan (Jaguars, $3.8 billion)

    • Jerry Jones (Cowboys, $3 billion)

    • Robert Kraft (Patriots, $2.9 billion)

    • Stephen Bisciotti (Ravens, $2.1 billion)

    • Bob McNair (Texans, $2 billion)

    • Arthur Blank (Falcons, $1.7 billion)

    • Jim Irsay (Colts, $1.6 billion)

    • Jimmy Haslam (Browns, $1.45 billion)

    • William Ford Sr. (Lions, $1.4 billion)

    • Tom Benson (Saints, $1.3 billion)

    The richest NBA owner is Orlando Magic owner Rich DeVos, who comes in at No. 60 on the list with a net worth of $6.8 billion.

    There are 12 other NBA owners on the list, including Kroenke (Nuggets), Micky Arison (Heat, $5.9 billion), Dan Gilbert (Cavaliers, $3.9 billion), Charles Dolan (Knicks, $3.3 billion), Tom Gores (Pistons, $2.7 billion), Mark Cuban (Mavericks $2.5 billion), Josh Harris (Sixers, $2.5 billion), Robert Pera (Grizzlies, $1.95 billion), Herb Simon (Pacers, $1.95 billion), Donald Sterling (Clippers, $1.9 billion), Glen Taylor (Timberwolves, $1.7 billion) and Benson (Pelicans).

    NHL owners include Kroenke (Avalanche), Harris (Devils), Terry Pegula (Sabres, $3.1 billion) and Jeremy Jacobs (Bruins, $2.8 billion), while the only baseball owners on the list are Ted Lerner (Nationals, $4 billion) and John Henry (Red Sox, $1.7 billion).

    The richest person involved in the sports world is Nike chairman Phil Knight, who Forbes says is the 24th-richest American at $16.3 billion, $55.7 billion behind Bill Gates, who topped the list for the 20th year in a row.

    Other notables on the list include Rupert Murdoch ($13.4 billion), chairman and CEO of News Corp and 21st Century Fox; Michael Rubin ($2.3 billion), owner of Fanatics, one of largest online sports retailers in the country; James France ($2 billion), vice chairman and executive vice president of NASCAR; Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank ($1.7 billion); and Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta ($1.3 billion, each), who co-own the UFC.[/rquoter]

    Man, that comcast deal is really eating into his profits. I hope he learns never to partner up again with an inferior product (Astros).

    The Buss family is rich from basically owning the Lakers. Dr. Buss gained his wealth from real estate investment back in the 70's and used that to buy the forum, the Lakers, and the Kings.

    His kids now own the Lakers, and their claim to fame is the fact that they grew up with a silver spoon in their mouths. They are millionaires for sure, but they can't compete financially with the billionaire owners that still have billion dollar companies supporting the bulk of their financial risk.

    For most owners, owning a sports franchise is just a hobby. For the Buss family, its their business and livelihood. If the Lakers brand ever suffered a major loss financially, they are pretty much screwed.

    So that’s why the Comets didn't survive in Houston. The Aeros were also a victim of these hard times. :(

    He never paid luxury taxes in the TMAC/Yao era, and looks like he's the only owner doing that with 2 superstars in their prime contending in last decade.

    It may not be a bad thing, but it does make you wonder...

    Morey said he wanted to own a team one day. I am sure he's stealing Les money and stashing it somewhere. Watch Les becoming a homeless man (not to be stomped by TJones) while Morey is sitting in the Rockets owner's box.
