Mark Cuban is a pretty dedicated owner. Would love to have him buy the rockets and shop lift us some stars.
for the knicks it isn't a problem, they'll always have a following up in the big apple. For Dallas to take the hit like that year after year shows they were willing to try new things to work and winning was the #1 priority. Cuban himself has acknowledged that the NBA is a business first and foremost.
San Antonio's a pretty efficient team. They played about as well as the Lakers over this span w/o the ridiculous tax payments. How about Portland? That's a crazy number for a team that hasn't done much over the past decade. I give credit to Paul Allen, but if you're gonna pay big bucks- make sure your getting your money's worth. LOL at the Knicks- gotta love Dolan, Prokhorov, and Cuban. Just throwing money and hoping to get lucky (to be fair, Cuban did).
What the Rockets don't use in luxury tax (inefficient money), Les gives Morey freedom in buying picks/sending cash
I am guessing he pockets it. The rockets are one of the most profitable teams in the NBA despite poor attendance and tv ratings.
cant believe in the Days of TMAC and YAO... we didnt pay any luxury tax.... we should go all in at that time!!!
With the Lakers and the Knicks, they can afford the tax because their markets HUGE, and fans are willing to pay top dollar for seats. The luxury tax punishes small market teams like Sacramento, Portland, Indiana, Milwaukee, etc. so they can't attract big name players, when it was intended to help them be competitive.
We should've went after some players during that 05-07 stretch when T-mac & Yao desperately needed more than just defensive scrubs around them. This proves though Les is far more willing to spend now, he's kind of a cheapskate.
for Cuban, it's a toy. Luckily, he had another extremely successful business that helped offset those luxury tax payments. The teams that avoid the luxury tax are the ones that truly see it as a business.
