12.9 would be better. It would be easier to pair him with a young prospect or two to land someone big.

<small class="time"></small> Ken Berger ‏<s>@</s>KBergCBS There's a poison pill in the Asik offer sheet that will force the Bulls to make decisions. First two years are $5M per, Year 3 roughly $15M.

Ken Berger ‏<s>@</s>KBergCBS The "Arenas" rule applies to Asik, who has two years service. A steep jump in year three of offer sheet thus permitted.

Ken Berger ‏<s>@</s>KBergCBS In Year 3 of Asik deal, Bulls have Rose ($18.9M), Boozer ($16.8M) and Noah ($12.2M) on books. And Chicago has historically avoided tax.

not so fast, CHI can still match, and they have quite a bit of time to figure it out :/

Once again our pimple faced trolls fail to understand the nature of business in the NBA.

It's not a splash, it's a doable, sensible move that plays hardball with the Bulls. Asik ain't great, but he is a proven effort guy which more than you could say about Dalembert, or a lot of other high paid Centers in the NBA.

With this deal, at least we have someone to play the position, who will defend the paint. If Camby comes back Asik can eat minutes for the old timer. If Dmo plays more minutes at C, Asik is the defensive specialist.

Morey can manipulate the cap. I'm not even sure this 100% ends the Dwight dream until Bima tells me it does.

I don't think this is a bad deal. If the Bulls don't match, I just hope Asik can produce when given extended minutes. While I do like this move (which I indicated in the other thread), part of me is worried that Asik is one of those players that is projected to do well in advanced metrics once given big minutes even though he's never had a large role in the NBA. Gortat wasn't as unproven as Asik, because every time Dwight Howard wasn't playing for some reason, Marcin, for the most part, played well. Before the Morey apologists jump all over, please remember that I'm cautiously optimistic about this potential signing.

NIKEstrad was actually the first to explain it:

The Bulls are pushing into luxury tax range. They'd be paying him like 15mil/yr soon.

Leuer is a better option for backup at this stage. If the Rockets need another C sized C they were interested in Aleks Maric.

C'mon Morey you don't spend that kind of money on a role player without having a franchise player already in tact, who or we building around?

And he wonders why star players don't want to play here..smh

From what i've seen from Asik, he deserves that contract. A 7 footer than can walk and chew bubble gum gets at least a mid-level.

My only problem is with the move and how it may affect the team's chances of acquiring a star. And, it stinks of another mediocrity move.

Who knows, maybe Morey did this deal knowing the Bulls would match, thus taking him off the market.

    ;)

You guys that want Dally over Asik have no idea what you are talking about. Asik is light-years better than Dally. Not even close. If we had to go to war today with no other roster moves and Chicago not matching on Asik, we'd be a top 5 team in the West. That's how good he is. I fully expect Chicago to match the deal and trade Noah.

It's an expensive way to stack wood.

He's a 7 foot big body, and it's not far from what we paid Sam either. I'm not excited in any way. He'll probably clog the paid and put up 12 and 9. Maybe working with McHale helps a little too.

It's the players we put around him that will be expected to score. Maybe that starts with Dragic, Gordon, Parson, and D-Mo.

Also that Dalembert netted Jeremy Lamb...

    People must have forgotten that.
