It's all one deal and it's bye bye Turk and Jose
Bryan Colangelo is at it again.

In a complex transaction that’s still not finalized, the Raptors are shipping out Hedo Turkoglu, Jose Calderon and one other piece not yet confirmed and getting back Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns, Boris Diaw and possibly Tyson Chandler from the Charlotte Bobcats.

League sources could not confirm the final pieces Monday morning but the Raptors will not have to touch the $14.5 million trade exception acquired last week in the Chris Bosh sign-and-trade transaction.

Colangelo originally drafted Barbosa with the Suns and has long been a fan of Diaw, a multi-purpose forward who can play a couple of positions. Chandler, who is in the last year of his contract, gives the Raptors another long athletic big man.

Turkoglu is destined for Phoenix, Calderon is headed to Charlotte and the league sources were unsure who the third piece leaving Toronto is and where he’s going.

    The financial gains are significant.

Barbosa has two years and $14.7 million left on his current contract; Diaw has two years and $18 million remaining and Chandler will be paid $13.1 million this coming season.

Turkoglu still had four years and about $40 million left on his deal and Calderon has three years and almost $30 million left to go.

We'll get more as the day progresses.

ESmith and Armstrong on the radio fan 590 in Toronto were talking about the trade, and said that there may be another trade on the way, possibly for a point guard.

The raptors are making big moves. What's the rockets' plan?

As a Raps fan, I really can't ask for much more.

Hedo/Jose/Evans out, along with Hedo's and Jose's horrible contracts.

Chandler/Diaw/Barbosa in, along with their shorter, much cheaper contracts.

    Well played BC.

Smart moves all around, especially money wise for the Raptors, getting solid talent back in return no less. They're the big winners here.

Since white foreign guys aren't working out, trade 2 of them for 2 black foreign players.

I really like Calderon in Charlotte. I loved the Bobcats last year and it should be fun to watch them this year again. I've always been a Jackson and Wallace fan, and now adding Calderon to the mix, a point guard that can actually shoot should be a lot of fun :).

I am wondering whether Toronto would do a S&T Bosh to Houston even if Bosh put us in his list? I think the answer is probably NO. It seems Toronto prefers to have TPE.

Uhhh they have been forced to make big moves after losing Bosh and knowing Hedo did not work. We are not in the same situation. Therefore, we dont have to make a big move just cause other teams are. We are fine just how we are. We have good young developing talent, tradeable assets if we need to make a move, and will resign to key pieces to the team in a couple of weeks. We good.

Half agreed. I believe the raptors never wanted Bosh to be back. Bosh experiment failed in Toronto. They want to rebuild. The current situation is the best for them.

Wow, the NBA landscape is truly changing fast. There has been so many roster moves, hard to keep up. This seems to be a nice deal for both sides in my opinion.

Move also made a lot of sense for PHX. With Dragic's coming-out party (no homo), they didn't really need Leandro for back-up point duties, so why not import some offense for the front court now that Amare (aka Amar'e) is gone..

STEIN_LINE_HQ I've been advised to expect Reggie Evans to be included in widely reported three-way deal (TOR, CHA and PHX) and land with Bobcats

Did Toronto improve over the Knicks? Did Charlotte get worse?

Yes to both. If this trade is true the Cats just shipped out Diaw and Chandler for Reggie Evans and Calderon. I don't even know what MJ and PHX are thinking about this trade, usually when a team wants to get rid of albatross players you ask for picks and young players, not give them useful players for their trash. Toronto was clearly looking to cut salary, they should have made BC pay through the nose. Instead they give him Barbosa for the right to pay Turkoglu 10M a year till he's 40 or whatever. Ditto for Charlotte, Calderon is one of the worst defenders in the league and somehow MJ thought he would be a good fit under Larry Brown?

BC just raped both these franchises. Now all he has to do is watch the Suns implode with Turkoglu getting abused continually on D and being redundant on O, as Nash basically does everything he can do at a much higher level. I'm sure Nash will ask for a trade then, so BC can probably persuade him to play in his country again.
