http://www.azcentral.com/sports/sun...uns-acquire-hedo-turkoglu-josh-childress.html The Suns are on the verge of acquiring forwards Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress, swiftly rebounding from the loss of Amar'e Stoudemire with two quality impact players. The Suns would send guard Leandro Barbosa to Toronto for Turkoglu, a 6-foot-10 Turkish forward with versatile skills to shoot from long range and be a playmaker. Phoenix would acquire Childress in a sign-and-trade deal with Atlanta, which still has his rights after he left the Hawks and the NBA to take a three-year, $20 million deal with the Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. Childress, 27, is able to leave Greece early and has agreed to a five-year, $30 million deal with the Suns. He is a 6-foot-8 swingman who averaged 11.1 points over four seasons with Atlanta, shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 36 percent on the 3-pointers. Phoenix will give up a future second-round pick to acquire Childress. The Suns would use some of their remaining $12.2 million trade exception to make both deals. They acquired the exception in the Stoudemire sign-and-trade Friday and used the first $4 million of it to do a sign-and-trade for Warrick.
nice pick ups but they have a glut at SF with childress, hedo, hill, jared dudely... and are shallow at SG and PF. guess theyll be looking to deal more or play with whatever
You know, Hedo was terrible last season - but in that system with Nash as his point guard? That is going to be fun to watch. I'm also glad to see Childress returning to the NBA. I always enjoyed his game. He'll do well with Nash too. Just when I had written the Suns off...
The Raptors make out like bandits by getting rid of Turkey-glue so easily. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/sun...uns-acquire-hedo-turkoglu-josh-childress.html Phoenix Suns close to acquiring Josh Childress, Hedo Turkoglu by Paul Coro - Jul. 11, 2010 08:06 PM The Arizona Republic LAS VEGAS - The Suns are on the verge of acquiring forwards Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress, swiftly rebounding from the loss of Amar'e Stoudemire with two quality impact players. The Suns would send guard Leandro Barbosa to Toronto for Turkoglu, a 6-foot-10 Turkish forward with versatile skills to shoot from long range and be a playmaker. Turkoglu, 31, has played 10 NBA seasons with four teams and wanted out of Toronto after an unhappy first season there. He averaged 11.3 points last season on 40.9 percent shootings, his lowest scoring average and shooting percentage in six years. Two seasons ago, Turkoglu was the NBA Most Improved Player when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists with Orlando and followed it up with a 2008-09 season with averages of 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Turkoglu could become the Suns' starting power forward in place of Stoudemire, allowing new acquisition Hakim Warrick to come off the bench with Childress, Channing Frye, Jared Dudley and Goran Dragic. They acquired the exception in the Stoudemire sign-and-trade Friday and used the first $4 million of it to do a sign-and-trade for Warrick. Turkoglu is represented by Lon Babby, who leagues sources have said will be the next leader of the Suns' basketball operations. Until recently, Childress was represented by Babby's agency before he switched to Octagon.
Yeah, Hedo's going to enjoy having Nash dominate the ball instead of himself. I'm in complete shock. The Suns didn't want to pay Stoudamire but they took HEDO? Seriously?
Looks like 2 seperate deals. Barbosa for Turkoglu. S&T for Childress. WojYahooNBA Suns will send part of Stoudemire trade exception to Atlanta to make deal work with Childress.
Strike Nash off Morey's superstar raid list. Hedo will do better with the Suns. Raptors were just a bad fit for him with Jack and Calderon there.
Stoudamire was a injury shock waiting to appear around the corner. I actually think now the team will be THAT much funner to watch with two absolute wizards with the ball working their magic. Hedo comes with less money than Amare too
I actually thought Hedo was the most untradeable player in the NBA. Still in shock to how easily Toronto unloaded him. I thought it was literally gonna take Chris Bosh or DeMar DeRozen + 2 first round picks or something to unload him. Big Winner no1: PHO Big Winner no.2: TOR Loser: ATL atlanta could have used childress more than marvin williams. not sure why they let him go for literally nothing
I wouldn't say they made out like bandits. He proved he could play with the Magic, but he wasn't a good fit with the Raptors. But I do wonder how he will work with Nash since he's a playmaker also and he needs the ball to be effective.
Not that they played great defense before, but they will probably allow the msot points in the league this year. Hakim Warrick isn't exactly a defensive stopper and neither is "Ball". (Turk)
Maybe it'll be funner. I'd rather have a boring team that wins. Amare is 20 times better then that soft crybaby who threw a fit when he was benched because he can't take care of himself. This is incredibly dumb for Phoenix, particularly since I have no clue whether this means Sarver won't be a tightwad or he'll use this contract as a way to avoid spending on someone who can actually play. They absolutely will regret this.
100% what I was thinking. Talk about flower forwards instead of PFs. Will the Suns even bother trying to defend next season? I have to agree another poster: I thought Hedo was about the most untradeable player in the NBA. Someone explain the Hawks rationale please. I don't think much of Josh Childress, but couldn't Atlanta have gotten more than a trade exception?
