you know you can't have a francis thread without rofflesaurus chiming in. was worried you weren't going to show . Anyways, the Return of Stevie Franchise Part 2 is a win-win situation. Either he plays good and helps us win another title, or there's always the option of trading expiring contracts.

If only Francis never got hurt, and if we still had him, oh boy our Rockets would be huge right now. Francis would've gotten alot more playing time since Yao is now gone. I believe the Franchise will be back determined, and I think we will see the old Stevie Franchise we once knew back in the day, again next season!

the way tinman cares about old school basketball, we still care about the player that was our only hope for 5 years. he played his heart out, and i respect that, especially since he did pretty damn good with maruice, cato, eddie, and co.

Reporter Wang Meng of Titan Sports reports from Houston

Nobody would have thought Steve Francis can show up at the training court; it was Tuesday afternoon, and towards the end of the Houston Rockets’ team practice, Lao Da walked painstakingly one step after the other onto the training court with the help of his crutches. He said he’s just dropping by to take a look and say hello to everybody, and he also wanted to visit Yao Ming at his home sometimes later that afternoon (as Yao Ming had just checked out from hospital from his surgery.)

Steve Francis looked great; dressed in a track suit of his own brand, he greeted everyone hello, leaning on his pair of crutches. It was on this day 1 week ago (i.e. February 26, Tuesday) that a surgery was completed on his knee, and nobody would have imagined that he could leave home so quickly on his own without his wheelchair, and walk/stroll along with a pair of crutches. Steve Francis said: “I felt so dull and almost suffocated at home. I need to take some fresh air, and come to say hello to my buddies.”

This season for Steve Francis had already ended, and overall, it was a very disappointing year as far as he was concerned. It was his dream to be able to return and play again for Houston Rockets; and he has the adoration, support and love of the Houston fans; as long as he can show up and play on court, there will always be warmest applause from the fans. But his injured knee failed him, and he had also failed his Houston fans. It seemed like Steve Francis had lost his speed and his penetration, and there is no way that he can contribute enough to this team just relying on his (mid-range or long-range) jumpers.

But not that many people knew that ever since Day 1 upon his return to Houston, Steve Francis had endured the pain brought by his troubled knee; one of the main ligaments on his right knee was 70% broken. Steve Francis wanted to run and penetrate but his leg actually simply did not respond and give him that opportunity. Thereupon Steve Francis made up his mind to undergo a surgery, and to remove simultaneously bone spurs around his knee. Steve Francis said it will take 2 full months for his convalescence before any rehabilitation can be started.

But actually, the Houston Rockets fans need to be patient to wait until Steve Francis’ return. It will take at least 3 to 4 months’ complete rest and convalescence for Steve Francis’ knee; of course there will be medical staffs to help accelerating his recuperation. Even if there will be such help, it will be almost impossible that Steve Francis can be up and running before July, and it will be probably only by August that he would be allowed to play some contact basketball. Lao Da said: “The team is playing so great now; it made me so itchy that I also want to come back immediately to play/compete; but there is no way I can do that; I can only patiently wait and watch the time past (for the complete heal of my knee).”

Now Steve Francis can only stay and convalesce at home. It is fortunate that there are so many people at home to accompany him, and his 2 kids can also help to channel some of his energy. And when he cannot sleep, he would climb out of his bed, and go online to play some computer games (so as to kill time). A lot of his friends also come to visit him at home. (A few days) prior to his surgery, Yao Ming also came to visit him at home; Yao Ming was cracking a joke with him who was sitting on his wheelchair and said: “Very soon, I will be exactly in the same plight like you.” And of course, every time there were competitions of the Houston Rockets, Steve Francis would sit in front of his television (to watch his team playing); “Now we are playing really well; every one is playing great, and we are playing more and more like a team. (I believe) we have passed the time for team gelling. Yao Ming has been injured, and this is a massive setback and loss to our team; the situation can become very difficult, but I do believe as before, there is still hope and opportunity for us in the playoff.”

Steve Francis had just come from the hospital, and he met Yao Ming there who had just completed his surgery. Steve Francis said: “Of course, he is still feeling somewhat down and uncomfortable about this all; he felt very unhappy and unwilling to accept such reality, but there is no other means now; he also understood that injuries and sicknesses in NBA are (part of the game and) difficult to avoid/prevent. Although it was only 1 day after his surgery, he is already so psyched up, ready and prepared that once his body permits, he will start his rehabilitation training immediately.” Steve Francis added that he will go to visit Yao Ming at home later in the afternoon, as Yao Ming had checked out of the hospital already on Tuesday. Then the two buddies, victims of their respective injuries/surgeries, can then exchange their experiences of bad injuries and surgeries, with one sitting on his wheelchair, and the other standing with the help of his crutches.

All his team mates were very worried and concerned about Yao Ming’s surgery. Uncle Mutombo said: “I knew he had already gone through his surgery; I also learnt that the surgery was smooth and successful. I knew it is very tough and difficult for him now during this period. I just hope he could make good use of this period to take rest and good care of himself, as (I understand) there will be very many important duties/assignments waiting for him. He needs not worry too much now, and it is of top priority and utmost importance that he recuperates his body first.”

Shane Battier, after learning that Yao Ming had completed his surgery, immediately sent off to Yao Ming’s cell phone a Get-Well-Soon short message. (to Yao Ming’s cell phone). Yao Ming returned his call after seeing the short message and told him: “I am feeling much better now. You guys continue to play well (and keep winning).”

Good article Pruyen, It is what I really wanted to know. He tried to play on knee that was 70 percent torn and he had bone spurs. Wow, that's dedication but I still think he should have gotten the surgery earlier. No wonder he couldn't play the way he used to. How could he get elevation plus get in shape with an injury like that? Get well quick and be our third scoring option next year
