Wasn't 100% sure if this was going to be released in the US. Of course, with there being a PSN version, it doesn't really matter where it is "officially" released. Now they need to try and release MGS4 April to make things even crazier. :)

 OMFG. This looks beautiful. What am I going to do with my previous copies of GT? :( I am only done with 18% of GT4... due to time constraints...

I know I asked before but... someone just clear this up for me: can I play my PS2 and PS1 games on the PS3?

Otherwise... just keep my PS2, huh? I will definitely buy GT5. That's probably the only game I would play religiously  .

All PS3s play PS1 games, although as mentioned, the 40GB PS3 does not play PS2 games (and the 80GB PS3 has somewhat limited BC...around 85% IIRC). I think they'll enable PS2 compatibility at some point for the 40GB PS3 (and future PS3 SKUs). If the 80GB PS3 is being discontinued, hopefully that is a sign that a solution for this issue might coming sooner rather than later. Of course, there are multiple ways of interpreting that news.

GT5 is probably a ways off still. Going by the release of GT4P and GT4, GT5 probably wouldn't be released in Japan until the end of this year (or next year in the US). I believe they wanted to release in Japan around the Spring/Summer, although I don't think that is going to happen.

Yeah, I think a lot of folks still don't understand that this is "Prologue" and not really GT5.

The graphics on that look awesome.

BUT, is it supposed to look realistic? I mean, they certainly get more realistic over time. BUT it seems like graphical power these days should be advanced enough that the whole game doesn't have to have that "glossy" look...if the goal is to look realistic. Again, awesome graphics...just curious.

why is that? prologue is in the thread title and only three times in the quote RC quoted. maybe prologue needs prologue to prologue be prologue in prologue every prologue other prologue word prologue.

They're aiming at realism, although I'm sure getting the lighting just right isn't quite feasible on the current hardware. It might take another generation or two of hardware before we "perfect" lighting (although we'll continue to get pretty close by "faking" it). I don't think this is restricted to racing games either. In a lot of games this generation, there have been issues with things being too "shiny." Skin, walls, hair, etc.

FWIW, I think I posted a quiz a while back using this game's graphics as a indicator of real-life vs video game graphics. Here's a link if you missed it and wanted to check it out:

He may have meant that people have no idea what Prologue means. For example, GT5 Prologue may seem like the latest main GT game (GT5 in this case), just with a weird subtitle. This is the first time a GT Prologue has come to the US, so it wouldn't surprise me if some people were confused about exactly what it is. I would think most people that are fans of the franchise and/or cars in general wouldn't really care though.

I'm sure this game will be awesome -- i'm maybe 20% through GT4 and haven't played in a while. It may be a bit too involved for the casual gamer.

The other day I picked up Tourist Trophy (same company as GT5, but motorcycles) on a whim [$19] and wow what a great game ! I've enjoyed it thoroughly -- the quick races and challenges are a blast. On a PS3 that could bring the graphics up to HD it should be amazing for a PS2 designed game. TT2 for the PS3 will no doubt be completely sick.

well, i made a similar assumption. i was just messing with him. :p

from what i read, the prologue is plagued with problems. regardless this will still be my first prologue because i don't think this game will be released till another year.

no one is forcing you to buy it. if you don't like the Prologue, then don't pay for it

What I meant was pretty much what RC thought - people are generally idiots.

I've heard people in Gamestop talking about Prologue as "Turismo 5" and I've heard the employees tell people it's Gran Turismo 5.

Gamestop is the devil but if the devil is dealing with morons...

I liked the first Gran Turismo game, but after that they've all been boring to me.

I've never really thought of GT as a "racing" game. PGR over Xbox Live, some others - those focus pretty much on beating other drivers to the finish line.

Now sure, there is racing in GT but it's really not its focus. It's more of a skills/challenge/goals game. You take a huge library of cars and try to achieve certains goals with them.

Some like that challenge. Some just like to haul ass and get to the finish line first.

Too bad that probably wouldn't be ready until like 2011.

I think I read something about Kazunori Yamauchi (lead designer of GT) mentioning having downloadable content for GT5 that would include motorcycles, although I'm not sure if that is still planned. Maybe it wasn't anything more than just an idea now that I think about it...

Basically, you wait 3 years or so until the "real" game comes out, or you can play this game in the meantime. If you're a casual fan, it probably wouldn't make sense, but if you're a big GT fan, I'd guess you wouldn't have any problem paying for a "trial version." Of course, even as a WIP, it does compare well to other games on the market (IIRC 50+ cars, 10 tracks, 16 player online, 1080p 60 FPS, etc.). Seems like people had problems getting more than 20% of GT4 done, so that is probably enough content.

That's right, I forgot that GT isn't a "racing" game, but a "real driving simulator" (TT is a "real riding simulator").

Agreed. The more realistic the graphics got, the more unrealistic the game started to feel (no crash damage, no deformable environment, etc.).
