Also, let me empahsize that Im a huge t-mac fan, almost to a fault. However, without that bias, I do think that he has lacked motivation or become complacent, at times. You may have a different take on it and thats cool. Some other members on this board, have pointed out that this event may make him even more motivated on the court, which I did not intially think of, but agree could also be a possibility. Guys, when would there always be someone wants to escalate a simple discussion on certain issue into a political debate by dissing others government??!!! I totally respect him going to Darfur and I hope it is good for his soul as a NBA superstar, I can not imagine how he could deal with the reality in the world as someone never lived a regular life, not even as regular as just a ordinary American, he was a superstar since right out of the high school.
You are right about him being privileged now. Except McGrady has never been an ordinary American going from a poor childhood and seeing a friend killed to becoming a millionaire. I would say that is not very normal for the majority of Americans. McGrady has been through tough times and tragedies but I am sure none of that compares to Darfur as I think you are trying to explain. Let's not pretend McGrady has had it easy his whole life though.
I did not say his whole life is a easy throughout, none of us has life like that as long as we are all breathing. But your point is well taken, and you have to admit that Tracy is much more blessed person than most of us. I do think the sad events in his life is overrated by the media although they would be heart wrenching for any given person.
Umm... free speech? The Bill of Rights is one of the greatest things about this country. Why is it so wrong to criticize our government's lack of action during genocidal events in Africa? I think the world would be a better place if George Bush took a couple of days off to live among Darfuri refugees like T-Mac did.

As far as basketball, remember Hakeem actually became a better player when he began to really explore his religion. maybe something like this will put things into perspective and it actually may make him a better player because he will be relaxed realizing there are more important things in the world.
Tracy, Thank you for doing what few other people in your situation have ever done. Much respect. For that matter, I think almost everyone that reads this thread probably lives a life that makes it possible for them to at least once in their lives visit an area of tragedy/poverty/oppression in the world... after all, this is where Reality is unveiled and wisdom is bestowed.
Yes! First of all, I get flack for being a homer about the Rockets with some people, and I have a problem with that anyway (cause come on, who do you think plays on TV more, the Rockets or the Lakers? F that). But the fact that not only are they a really good team, capable of making a run at the rings, but I actually LIKE these players as people.
TMac's had a lot of rough things happen in his life -- when you put it all together he's had to deal with as much tragedy as Eddie Griffin did. This is great that TMac is channeling his pains into helping other people. It might be temping to associate this sensitivity with that trite criticism of TMac -- that he doesn't have enough of a killer instinct. Well, all I can say to that is, Eddie Griffin had a killer instinct.
