    What I think/hope will happen

And to add to all the joy we've already received from stealing Scola, here are links to 2 Spurs fan forums and how they're reacting to this trade. (Hint: not very well.) Enjoy!

BTW, I find it ridiculous how much better CF.net is run than either of those sites. I always knew this was one of the best fan forums in the country, but visiting some other crappy ones every now and then always helps reinforce that thought.

Isn't it funny that they traded scola after getting spitter in the draft? I'm just saying that it might be a reason the trade went down. Maybe the spurs think spitter is a better prospect

    This deal is insane.....

I still can't figure it out....

Someone is getting screwed here and I really don't know who it is....

With the facts we have, this trade makes no sense whatsoever and the Spurs got OWNED.

It would if it brought SA under the cap but it doesn't :S

Maybe the Spurs know something we don't about Scola....in which case the Rockets might have got owned (unlikely)

Maybe this is the 1st part of another SA deal ...maybe sending Span to Tau for Tiago Splitter's buy out (in which case Span gets owned)

Or SA have convinced Span to play for them....Which would make it more even but still...

As it stands , Morey made a heck of a deal....

Time to cut some players. My fantasy trade now can only happen in August.

It's Alston+Sura+Snyder+Reed+Lucas+Novak for LaFrentz+Koponen+draft rights to Joel Freeland.

    James Brooks Koponen
    McGrady Bonzi Head
    Battier Harris
    Scola Hayes Landry Butler
    Yao Deke LaFrentz

Even though LaFrentz is added. Rockets team salary would actually go down by 600/400k.

Snyder is a bust. Harris is the new and better gamble.

Yeah, i missed that, the numbers threw me off :p

That was my first thought. We robbed them again! Fantastic deal, and Scola will play this season, starting, no doubt, and will fit perfectly.

All is good in Rockets Land.

Luxury tax is dollar for dollar, e.g if they're over by 1 million they pay 1 million. There's more to it though, another penalty is that teams paying luxury tax don't get a share of league profits or get a lesser percentage. I don't remember exactly.

Haha someone on the Spurs board said we passed over Splitter on purpose so the Spurs can draft him and in turn they give us Scola haha.

Scola might take some time to adjust (it took Oberto a full season), I hope peole don't overreact if he struggles initially.

I'm thrilled. Also, let's examine Morey's moves so far:

    1. He hires Adelman. Some are displeased with how he handled it, but the general consensus seemed to be that it was time for Van Gundy to go and Adelman was a good replacement. At the very least the Rockets should be more entertaining to watch, and most of us were/are pretty happy about that.

But then, as a result of Adelman being hired, Bonzi decides not to opt out of his dirt cheap contract. Rumors even start appearing that he's in shape and excited to redeem himself next season. If those rumors turn out to be true and Bonzi returns to his playing form of his last season with Sacramento (under Adelman), that alone makes signing Adelman worth it in my mind.

    2. He traded Juwan Howard for Mike James. While the majority of us were thrilled, many still said "Now we have no power forwards and Mike James does not solve our point guard problem."

Well, now we're far deeper at point guard than we were last year and I'm thinking the worst case scenario for Scola is that he gives us what Juwan did last year. That being the case, at worst we're a better team than last season. At best, Scola is FAR better than Juwan, becomes our starting power forward, and we're now FAR better this year than last.

p.s. Mike James said Adelman was why he wanted to come back here. Did he mean it? Who knows with that guy, but it's interesting nonetheless.

    3. He drafts Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry & Brad Newley. And (Despite the fact we started draft day with just the one pick at 26) the board goes nuts with doom and gloom forecasts that it was the worst draft ever. Summer league starts and, hey, what do you know? These guys aren't so bad! In fact, most folks are starting to like the picks!

    4. He signs Mike Harris to a 2 year non-guaranteed deal. Again, the board goes ballistic talking about what a horrible move this was - despite the fact the contract is non-guaranteed, and then Mike Harris steps into the first summer game that very same night and puts up the best performance of anyone on our team. I know it's just a summer league game, but considering the low risk I think it's fair to call this another score for Morey.

    5. He trades Vassilis Crytohismomillis, a 2009 2nd round pick and cash considerations for a Luis Scola, widely believed to be the best power forward in Europe and very NBA ready, AND Jackie Butler, whom a sports writer who is generally respected on this board, Kelly Dwyer has named as one of the more under-rated centers in the league, and in this very thread, claimed that he should be a starter somewhere.

    6. He has done all of this and what have we lost? Juwan Howard's contract, a whiny greek who couldn't get off the bench and a 2009 2nd round pick. Assuming we re-sign Hayes and Mutumbo, we have maintained ALL of our other assets and still have them to work with if need be.

Conclusion: Morey is smarter than us.

There will always be some who will. He will struggle but his fighting spirit and skills will get him though.

Jorge Garbajosa, Raptors 28 year old rookie power forward. He took three games to show potential and came good in his seventh game.

Spurs fans on SUICIDE watch after the Scola trade

This is what people from SA is saying about the trade, they're asking for Popovich and RC Buford heads and want the stingy owner Peter Holt to se;; the team.

I couldn't help laughing my ass off @ those morons!! :D

Dennis Lindsey is now the anti-christ.

This is the worst trade in Spurs history. Scola and Butler for a second round pick and cash.

    I am outraged.

so far we've learned that morey talks a lot but reveals nothing. he pulls brooks and now scola out of nowhere and both look like steals. fellas this offseason is looking sharp.

Apparently (I read this on another internet forum) the Spurs could only offer Scola 500k as a buyout, while the Rockets could offer 2 million more than what he gets right now (3 million). Hopefully the extra money and free PF spot will lure him here.

Maybe some Rockets fans could point out that Butler has negative trade value? He's the Spurs's Stromile Swift :D
