My depth chart wasn't designed for who starts or whatnot just positioning

But yeah, Landry was a 2nd rounder so he isn't guaranteed a contract right??? I'd definitely sign Harris over Landry, Harris has a ton of potential/ Where as Landry is just typical 2nd round fod

I hate to be mean but he isn't a good leaper from what I've seen, he falls down to much, he has the NBA IQ but he's not as athletic or smooth around the basket as hyped but worst of all he doesnt have a killer mentality, when he's on court he tends to just stand around doing nothing besides standing.. I guess showing off his big forehead I don't know, he just stands

While Harris is very athletic, a great leaper, awesome finisher around the basketball, good iq for the nba and has that killer mentality and is very active on court. Of course both players are projects but I'd much rather select harris and try to develop him over Landry

    PG: Rafer/James/Brooks
    SG: T-Mac/Bonzi/Snyder/Head
    SF: Battier/T-Mac/Bonzi (Reed/Novak)
    PF: Scola/Hayes/Battier (Harris/Landry/Novak)
    C: Yao/Butler/Deke/Hayes (Jake)

that's a total of 12/13 rotational players. sorry to Novak, but he doesn't appear to make it, or Harris and Landry. only T-Mac and Yao are going to play 30+ mpg this season, and maybe Battier or Bonzi if he plays like he did for Adelman.

the 2,3, and 5 spots seem rock solid. among the best in the league.

the PG and PF spots still do not have a definitive starter, but have improved considerably. Rafer is still the starter until proven otherwise by James/Brooks. Scola/Hayes/Battier all bring different aspects to the PF position. Head/Snyder/Deke (or Butler) probably become garbage time players leaving a real rotation of about 9-10.

maybe the Rockets can package their lower rotational players and the scrubs for an top 15 PG or PF, but that seems difficult and actually unnecessary.

IMO, we should keep Hayes. He's our only known commodity at PF. Scola is coming from Europe. Although it looks like he can start easily in the NBA with only a short transition period, it's not a given. He could have problems adjusting.

Landry is NOT ready to play. He's good, but he's still too fresh from what I've seen. If Scola chokes, I'd rather have Hayes start than Butler or Landry.

This VSpan trade was great though. It gives us two big bodies up front in Butler and Scola. Although we still don't have a good PF right now, we have several decent ones that should suffice, and hopefully one of them can step up and become a good starter.

All I want to see us do from here on is re-sign Chuck as promised with whatever we have left after Scola, try to get Deke to re-sign for the veteran's minimum (I know Butler will be here to back up Yao, but Jake is a FA that will likely be let go and it only helps to have Deke and his shot blocking/rebounding still around). After that, I'd like to see us try and get some future draft picks (2nd rounders are fine) by trading away some of our PG's - namely JLIII and Sura's contract.

Based on Adelman's interview during our last summer game (it's on the front page of CF.net in the new video feature section, in case you missed it), it doesn't seem like Eliyahu will be on our roster next season and spend more time outside of the NBA. I also think Newley will continue to develop overseas. So, I know this is premature, but I predict our roster to be:

    PG: Alston, James, Brooks
    SG: McGrady, Head, Snyder
    SF: Battier, Wells, Novak
    PF: Scola, Hayes, Landry
    C: Yao, Deke, Butler

Not effing bad, if you ask me! MJ will be our 6th man off the bench that will play that ever so important role of sparking the team like Manu in SA or Stack in Dallas. That makes up the 15 man roster and maybe we waive Justin Reed, but keep his phone number around in case we want to sign him to 10 day contracts if injuries occur. Or we just trade him...either way, I could not be more pleased with the way our roster for '07/'08 looks this far before the season is to begin!

    Yao/Deke/Butler
    Scola/Hayes/Landry
    Battier/Snyder/Harris
    TMac/Bonzi/Head
    James/Alston/Brooks

Sura retires. Lucas, Novak, and Reed either get dealed for 2nd rounders or cash, sent to the NBDL, or released. If we could pick up Francis with the LLE then maybe we could package Alston and Head/Snyder for an upgrade at backup 3/4. That's really gravy though.

Unfortunately, I don't think we can assign players to the NBDL unless they're on the 15-man roster. Morey has some tough decisions to make.

No way for Harris...too small...hustler...but not alot of talent for the long haul. He'll be in tcamp...then he'll be gone.

Maybe he can hook up with another team and ride the bench

What happened to Jake Tsakalidis? Is he still with us?

    Yao/Butler
    Scola/Hayes/Novak
    Battier/Bonzi
    T-Mac/Head/Snyder
    James/Alston/Brooks/JL3/Sura

Looks like we are a bit thin at the 3 if Bonzi doesn't work out again.

Snyder can play 3 as well. also, James can move over to SG for stretches, and T-Mac is a natural SF.

Head can shoot the ball, so I hope they don't rashly trade him away. I bet the Rockets cut Novak and try to deal Lucas and keep their trade pieces like the Sura contract, Head and possibly Bonzi in case a mid-season trade need, or opportunity arises. I still can't believe we pulled this trade off!

Probably the most realistic depth chart that i've seen so far although you kind of get the impression with Adelman's arrival and all of the Battier/Head trade rumors that there seems to be a movement to get rid of all of JVG's "guys".

For that reason I really doubt that they plan on rolling into next season with Rafer as the starter. With serviceable players like Rafer, Head, Snyder and JLIII/Novak (to a degree) and Sura's expiring contract I think some sort of 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 is forthcoming and inevitable.

....and for the record: Scola, Hayes and Landry isn't good enough out West. At least not right now. Maybe once that trio proves themselves but right now we're essentially talking about two rookies and a 6'6" unskilled garbageman as our only options at PF. Ohhh, can't forget about Novak, right?! Come on now. I'm not trying to be a pessimist here but can you really blame me for not feeling so secure?

that pf lineup is better than any we had the past few years, we've had juawn/hayes, stro/juawn, juawn/scrubs (maurice and weatherspoon), maurice/cato/weatherspoon (that year was so desperate, we signed charles oakley...). these past years of having scrubs as our pf, most people on this board can't help but get exicited. we for once, have only young, big potential, players for our pf. we got butler, scola, landry, and hayes. they are all young and can improve.

I posted this in the Butler thread:

    Expiring contracts this year:
    Bob Sura: $3.84 million
Jackie Butler: $2.35 million (team option the following year)
    Bonzi Wells: $2.284 million
John Lucas III: $770,610 (team option the following year)
Steve Novak: $687,456 (team option the following year)

    TOTAL: $9,932,266

Snyder has "qualified offer" listed by his name for next year at The Site That Shall Not Be Named. Does that make him an expiring contract as well?

BTW, for those of you thinking Le$ will go over the luxury tax, think again. Not only would he have to pay the luxury tax penalty, but he would also lose out on some league revenue sharing by going over the limit.

I think Novak should spend the majority of the year in the D-League. I really dont know if he will ever contribute much to an NBA team. John Lucas will just be cut.
I think this team will be fine:

    PG: Mike James/Rafer Alston/Aaron Brooks
    SG: Tracy McGrady/Luther Head/Kirk Snyder
    SF: Shane Battier/Bonzi Wells/Mike Harris
    PF: Luis Scola/Chuck Hayes/Carl Landry
    C: Yao Ming/Dikembe Mutombo/Jackie Butler

I think this is a significant upgrade from last year's roster

PG: Rafer Alston/John Lucas III/Vassillis Spanoullis
    SG:Tracy McGrady/Luther Head/Bob Sura
    SF Shane Battier/Kirk Snyder/Bonzi Wells
    PF: Chuck Hayes/Juwan Howard/Steve Novak
    C:Yao Ming/Dikembe Mutombo/Jake Tsakalidas

Everyone forgets about poor Justin Reed. He's on the roster, and his contract runs for 2 more seasons (including next season). I'm not sure he'll be cut, either, since, IIRC, Morey wanted him to be included in the Mike James trade. (Plus, would Le$ really want to eat the $3 million left on his contract?)
