I hope this topic deserve its own thread. It really show that coaches in the league do take notice Yao effort to improve every season. This is definitely right about Yao and to put Duncan's name along Yao really show respect for Yao. I getting to like Yao more and more in each passing day. Oh no! I am turning into a YOF soon. Make my word, Yao tears the league for years to come and become one of the great franchise of Houston. Lakers Coach Phil Jackson: "You've got guys in this league that are symbolic and emblematic of that kind of effort, like Tim Duncan and Yao Ming, guys that are centers that are ahead of you, that show great discipline. They go out on the court before games, they're working hard on their games, they're showing improvement year by year. They're at a point where they're correcting mistakes and getting better, even as they age in this league. You really have to push yourself as a player." http://www.latimes.com/sports/baske...b06,0,3300146.story?track=mostviewed-homepage
Impressive...from the Zen Master himself, eh? Well it's only a testament to how hard Yao's been working and people not affiliated with the national media are taking or have taken notice to the rising of one of the most dominant players in the NBA today. If only we could get ESPN to repeat that 100 times... Oh well, it's always better being the underdog. GO YAO. Come back strong big guy.
That is quite obviously a dig at Andrew Bynum. Phil Jackson is particularly notorious for taking shots at his own players publicly, and Bynum has quite a bit of an arrogant attitude. Thinks he's all that and never likes to show respect for the greats that have gone before him.
WHY ask ?? If there is any updates, it will be posted on my Dedicated Thread of Yao Ming's Rehabilitation. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=122294 Right now, no news is great news.....meaning you can be 100% certain that He is progressing well on his healing/recuperation, and He is working his @r$e off trying to return to competitive shape & form, knowing he is such a diligent person with great work ethics Maybe in another week's time, sometimes towards the All Stars Week-end, we can read more about him in the press.
I agree. You always have to look for PJ's motives when he makes public statements like these. It's fine he mentioned Yao but he's clearly aiming at Bynum (and maybe Shaq, maybe not).
I saw that on Sportscenter. Phil's reaction was priceless, Bynum giggling on the way to the bench, walking past a pissed off stonefaced Phil....He must have been thinking, what a knucklhead....
Because everything Phil says is a measured, political statement with ulterior motives, I took the liberty of adding his unsaid thoughts.
Well I wouldnt put TD in the same catagory as Yao, there is something that TD still can't do, perhaps he doesnt practice it or he just isnt good at it, and that is free-throws. Yao has no real weaknesses as far as basketball skills for a center are concerned, unless you view speed as a basketball skill.
Might as well post the context from the original article linked above, it's just a classic case of Phil Jackson berating his rookies in the press as usual:
man Phil Jackson really doesn't like Bynum... did you guys check out that video on you tube where Phil makes fun of Bynum? LOL that cracked me up for a good hour.
