As Yao Ming, my hero, crashed, crumbled and sidelined for at least the future 6 weeks, he would definitely be fading out of the limelight by the Western media.

But as usual, there will still be regular coverage/articles on the various Chinese websites about his latest rehabilitation status.

Therefore I have created this thread.....and will post regularly translated articles, if possible photos, of Big Yao during his rehabilitation, just like what I used to do for the summer.

An article will come up shortly.....as I'm working on it now.

pryuen... I mean, I have made several friends in China thanks to Yao, and my email box/icq chat is full of talking about how we are feeling. how we are feeling with Yao being hurt. I'm hurt...They are hurt. We are all hurt.

Hakeem Olajuwon got his face busted by Bill Cartwright's elbow...almost a live threatening injury.

Rudy Tomjanovich ... say no more.

Houston fans know injuries. We hurt! We don't forget. Yao will not fade out of the limelight to us. Even if he never played again...Yao is GREAT. Yao deserves better. Yao is HOUSTON! ROCKETS!

This Christmas is a little bit too bitterly cold

Reporter Wang Meng reports from Houston

Yao Ming certainly would not have thought about this; he passed last year's Christmas Day lying on his bed; this year, he will also pass his Christmas Day lying on his bed. So does Santa Claus only think of gifting him with pain and grief for Christmas ?

A year ago Yao Ming had a surgery on his left toe on December 18, and missed the subsequent 21 games. One year later, yesterday (Beijing Standard Time December 24) morning, he fractured his right tibia during the game with LA Clippers, and will be forced to be sidelined to recuberate for minimum of 6 up to 12 weeks, and it is estimated he might have to miss 30 games. Erik Zhang Mingji, leader of the Team Yao, said: "He definitely will miss the February 18 NBA All Stars in Las Vegas. We just could not take that risk. He will probably still travel to Las Vegas, but he will not be playing." This will be the first time that Yao Ming misses the NBA All Stars.

The game on the 24th was only into 5 minutes 42 seconds (in the first quarter); Tim Thomas, small forward of the LA Clippers, drove into the interior; Chuck Hayes, Rockets' power forward, stood in front of Tim Thomas. Yao Ming went all out to block Tim Thomas' shot onto the back board of the rim. At the same time, Tim Thomas bumped with Chuck Hayes, and the two of them bumped onto Yao Ming's right knee.Yao Ming fell onto the floor, bowed his body, with both hands holding his right knee, screamed painfully, and pounded the floor fiercely with his fist. 2 of Rockets team trainers immediately came over and attempted to calm Yao Ming down. It was after a 2-minutes melee that Yao Ming managed to sit up.

The whole Toytoa Centre fans were anxiously waiting for Yao Ming to stand up. Chants of MVP were echoed throughout the whole stadium. Yao Ming was finally helped to get up and left the court, but never returned for the match.

While he was in the changing room, the joint consultation of the Rockets' team doctor and trainer was that it was a hyper-extention, i.e. Yao Ming's knee joint was extended in reversed direction by sheer force, a bone bruise that would need only rest of a few games. However, the final Magnetic Rsonance Inspection diagnosis an hour later in the hospital demonstrated Yao Ming's injury was much more serious than was initially imagined. Yao Ming's right tibial plateau had small fractures due to intensive impact. Therefore, Yao Ming will require a minimum of 6 up to 12 weeks' recuberation.

"According to the doctor, Yao Ming will require complete rest for 6 weeks; during that 6 weeks, he cannot carry any weights." Erik Zhang Mingji said. "And even when the bone finally heals, it will require time to slowly restore the strength to his right leg. Therefore, perhaps Yao Ming will require a minimum of 8 weeks or above for the recuberation. And now the NBA All Stars is just 8 weeks to go."

After Yao Ming left the court, the rest of the Rockets played extremely diligent; the 3 major starters, Shane Battier, Luther Head and Rafer Alston all scored over 20 points, and made 11 out of 20 of their 3-pointers. In spite of the effort, they still could not prevent the LA Clippers stealing only the 2nd win of their 11 road games. As the Rockets were severely short in the interior power (due to Yao Ming was injured and out of the game), the Rockets could not but try to front and converge onto Elton Brand and Chris Kaman, resulting in letting the LA Clippers, one of the worst 3-pointer shooting teams in NBA, connecting 7 out of 13 3-pointers.

A heavy rainstorm started 3 hours after the game ended when Yao Ming returned to Toyota Centre from the hospital. Everybody had gone and what was left were the casual wear and shoes of Yao Ming in his locker. The hospital had fixed Yao Ming's knee, and Yao Ming could walk cautiously; he tidied up his stuff and left the locker room shortly afterwards. So at least for the next 6 weeks, Yao Ming will not be appearing there. Up till now Tracy McGrady still cannot play. So nobody dares to imagine what will become of the Rockets' win/loss ratio in another 6 weeks' time. The Rockets seemed to have returned to their (nightmarish) plight a season ago.

I am very, very sad about Yao's injury.........but for some reason I don't feel that I want to cry or stick my head in the sand. Ah well. This will test our team chemistry and how JVG will be forced to adjust.

The news of Yao hurt broke my heart. Kind of ruin my Christmas.

Get well soon, big Yao. Can't wait to see you on the court again.

Rockets will look totally different without Yao in the line up.

Yao is my hero as well. Someone so humble and genuinely nice....its simply impossible not to root for the big guy. I'd gladly break both my legs if it would make him better.

NO surgery, NO sequelae, JUST need time to recover.
I saw from an Chinese media, it could be 8 weeks, or up to 3 months.

so sad, Yao's team says Yao will not play the all-star game.
