I just read a disk has been developed that holds both HD and Bluray on a single disk! Thank goodness. Hopefully it becomes the norm.
M:I-III looked incredible on HD-DVD, and I only watched it on a 768p 32" LCD screen. From what I've read the Blu-ray version is about the same, although you do miss out on the video commentary.
Yeah, they also announced players that would play both formats. We talked a little bit about it in this thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=122630 I'd rather the players support both formats than have both formats on a single disc, and that's probably what will be supported more IMO (although I'd rather neither become the norm).
Main difference is that 60gb has wi-fi so u can connect wireless devices such as a mice and keyboard to it, 20gb does not. It's useful since u can use the PS3 as a webbrowser. It comes with AV cables (red, white, yellow) so you have to buy HDMI cables to play in HD. Any brand will be fine. I have a $60 sony HDMI cables from walmart but there are more generic brands for cheaper. PS3 can connect to the internet via ethernet or wirelessly straight outta the box. It even comes with a ethernet cable. Buy an extra controller as it only comes with one. After beating Resistance (which was way too short), I'd say get NBA 2k7 if u like basketball. If you've seen Gears of War, you'd think Resistance blows. Anyhow, I also have fight night rd 3 which looks great but my joysticks are going to break if i keep playing it.
How long did it take you to beat? It seemed like most people needed about 10-15 hours or so, which is decent for FPS like Resistance. If I'm not mistaken, it is quite a bit longer than Gears of War (game length is one of the few complaints I've seen about GOW, but the intensity of the game kind of makes up for it).
None. If the batteries ever go dead (hopefully they won't for at least a few years), you'll either have to get a replacement from Sony (for free of course) or just buy another controller. Don't really like the way they are handling this, but hopefully it shouldn't ever matter.
So has anybody heard anything about the people who bought the first batch of PS3's so that they could sell them returning the consoles to get their money back? It's because they aren't able to sell them for as much as they had hoped on Ebay. It sounds kind of bad that PS3s are being returned, but now somebody who actually wants to buy it for gaming purposes can get it at the normal crazy price instead of paying the 2nd hand markup.
The only reason I mention it is because my controller is already down to 2 bars of charge, I play maybe 3 hrs a week
So are you asking about what to do when the controller loses its charge? The batteries are rechargeable, if that's what you were looking for; you won't need to get new batteries just for that. Just hook it up to the PS3 (or even a PC) with a USB cable (mini USB on one end for the controller IIRC). A USB cable should have come with the PS3. That should put you back at full charge. The batteries will eventually lose their charge permanently though, leaving you with the options I gave earlier (or, I guess you could just play with the USB cable hooked up...I think that would work, although you'd lose the wireless feature). I thought that was what you were asking.
Ah, gotcha so just hook it up to the PS3 via the USB cable and it'll charge back up, missed that bit of info in the instructions
The system must be on when charging the controlers. The best thing to it is when you're watching a DVD or BD. If you have the system off and have the controlers plugged in they won't charge.
Systems are somewhat readily available; you don't necessarily need a return to come back to get one. They aren't that hard to find and online I've seen them around quite a bit. I think best buy or amazon was selling them for two days before selling out. People that want a system just have to keep an eye out.
It took me and my cousin around 2 weeks playing 1 - 2 hrs every other day but I'm guessing no more than 12 hours. That's way too short for a $60 game. I guess online play makes up for that which I don't have. Well, there weren't that many different monsters and bosses are pretty stupid. The last boss, the Angels, were so easy to defeat. This game doesn't even have recoil. Also, since this game is in 720p the graphics look OKAY but NBA 2k7 is in 1080p but the frame rate sucks at times. Does that mean PS3 games won't have good frame rates on 1080 resolution, you either have one or the other, or it is just because programmers haven't efficiently figured out how to utilize the core?
As I said earlier, that sounds about right for the type of game Resistance is. From the few reviews I've checked out, games like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Gears of War are all around 10 hours or less IIRC. Don't get me wrong, I hate getting that little play time from a game as well (especially from a $60 game). That's probably why my library consists mostly of RPGs that take up a minimum of 40 hours (and some over 100 hours). But this is hardly a problem unique to Resistance from what I can tell. Now those other problems are a little bit more of a concern. If you want more of a challenge, I'd suggest checking out some of the harder difficulties (if I'm not mistaken, at least one difficulty is locked until you beat the game on hard or something). The AI steps it up a bit on the harder difficulty levels...although I think that pertains more to the normal enemies than the bosses. I haven't played the game yet, so I can't comment (nor do I really want to get too specific since I'd like to avoid some things). Plus, there are new weapons that you can find and use when you replay the game. Online play probably would help in some areas, particularly in replayability (duh!). Sucks that you can't check that out. Getting a solid framerate at 1080p with good/great graphics definitely isn't easy to do, but I'd expect programmers to improve in this area in the future (and not only on the PS3). If nothing else, they might be less willing to sacrifice framerate for resolution (Resistance was designed to support 1080p, but that was dropped in the last month or so to keep the framerate solid at all times). It especially doesn't help that programmers have to figure out a way to get good results from both the PS3 and Xbox 360. 1st/2nd party devs might be able to get better results (NBA 07 is 1080p at 60FPS...though it looks, animates, and plays like crap, so not a good example ).
Haven't seen this posted. Thought I pass this along. Cut-n-paste from latest official EBGames spam mail that I get every week (but curiously no link, so call ahead): Edit: Found the ad: http://www.ebgames.com/gs/weeklyad/current/olfsi_011207-1.asp
