I'd probably go with Snyder. This Bonzi Wells signing is probably going to affect his minutes the most. Before Bonzi came on board, Snyder was one of the few athletic swing players that we had on the team. He probably would have seen court time as an athletic defender if nothing else. But Wells is much more established as an offensive player, and provides just as much size and athleticism at the wing position as Snyder. With Bonzi probably going for at least 30 mpg, that doesn't leave a whole lot for Kirk unless Tracy goes down. Which I guess isn't that much of a longshot. Still I'll go with Snyder being on the outside looking in.
What do you mean by bust?. We know what they all bring to a NBA game except Spanoulis. If you mean who is not going to rise above his current level and be the second coming of Jordan or in some way not meet the fans expectations then anyone of them is a likely candidate. These guys are all role players. None has a complete NBA game and all have holes in their game in some way. Otherwise we could not have afforded them. They will all likely contribute as expected. Anything more that they bring is gravy. No busts here. If Wells, Snyder or Lucas suddenly develops an outside shot, that's gravy If Novak or Spanoulis, Azubuike or Jacobsen suddenly show some man D then that's gravy. I expect these guys to be a lot like the team two years ago which was a bunch of role players whom VG taught to play team D. That would be great.
Hmm, good point. I would say Derek Anderson and Stromile Swift were good examples of busts last year. Also perhaps if one of the two guys with spotty behavioral records (Bonzi/Snyder) clashes with JVG, or worse, that would be a bust. I think the odds are against all of them being immediate contributors or net positives while they're here; that would be too perfect.
I also picked Snyder because of the Bonzi Wells signing. Barring injuries like last seaon, he seems kinda buried on the depth chart due to the abundance of guards. He could probably slide over to the 3 also for short periods of time, but with Tracy and Battier also playing that position, he won't get a lot of Pt.
Kirk and KillBill are leading in both the breakout season poll, and this one. Man, it's gonna be an interesting year.
Yes that was also my first thought when I read this post! No need for it at this time when all our true fans are on a high going into the season!! Especially when you have a rookie and many players who will be playing together for the first time. For the Rockets sake lets give everyone a chance berfore we start sticking lables on them. Remember how many of us said that Yao Ming would be a bust and were proven to be incorrect!!
Depends on what you mean. Who is the most likely to not be any good? Spanoulis or Snyder, of course. But that's because they have less lengthy track records from which we can extrapolate success. Most likely to go down in a spectacular conflagration? Bonzi Wells.
I went with Spanoulis. Just because he's coming in with tons of expectation, and zero knowledge of what its like to play in the NBA. you could say Snyder, but you cant really be a major bust w/out major expectations. No one seriously thinks he's gonna be a bigtime help to us do they?
Maybe not many people, but I do. He plays defense and makes shots. I expect he'll get 16-24 minutes a game with 8-11 pts/g with very few wasted possessions. I don't expect him to lose many one on one battles outside of playing allstars.
Span. Everyone expects him to be the next Ginobili or something of that manner, when he could very well be the next Yuta Tabuse.
Come on. Tabuse was a publicity stunt that had no chance to make the league. Vspan isn't going to be that bad.
Picked Snyder, with the addition of Wells, I don't see him getting significant PT, especially since Luther maybe the best 3 point shooter on the team. Also, as a Jazz fan pointed out on realgm, Snyder has been traded twice, once for a done-for Ostertag and then traded to us for absolutely nothing.
I predict no one will be viewed as a bust since they are not that good anyway. I am hoping VSpan will pan out - I'm rutting for him. Lucas has a shot and is quick and small. If he can play like he did in summer league and contribute that would be great. Wells, is all gravy at this point since no one in their right mind expected the Rockets would get him this year. Snyder is a long shot so no expectations for him.
Why don't we just wait and see? I hate predictions like that. It even can affect some players. Let's allow them to play their game first and reserve judgement for later on.
Wells: A proven talent on both ends, but have character issues on and off court. He is not going to lose his talent suddenly. But he could have a run in with JVG and be in the doghouse. Spanoulis: The most unknown among this bunch. With his performance in the WC, expectation has shot up. If "bust" means not meeting the expectation, he might be the most disappointing addition. Battier: The only way this guy could be a bust is injury. We know what he can do and the things that he can do fit in any system. Snyder: To be honest, I have no idea what he can bring. And apart from Wells, he has the highest chance of getting on JVG's nerve. Lucas and Novak: Their SL performance raises some expectations. But most people are cautious. Not too many people have hight expectation for them. So if they can scrape some PT, that would be gravy.
Why most guys choose Snyder? I don't think he have enough playing time as a SG because of Tmac and Wells.
I agree, if he busts.... it's a bust by default because of lack of playing time. However, I feel the signing of Bonzi lessens the pressure for Snyder to perform well. During the time he gets all he has to do is hustle, play hard and try to lockdown the opposing teams best SG. Therefore, his numbers in terms of points and rebounds may imply "bust" but I am confident he will play a significant role during his time on the floor. On a sidenote Snyder's game reminds me of a lot of Ruben Patterson.
