Battier. He is going to be absolutely wide open all year.

I personally have a good feeling about KillBill. Something about the way he attacks the basket. I think he's going to have a lot of success in a league without hand-checking. Sura II.

I feel that Battier and Wells are known commodities that aren't going to "break out" and surprise anyone. Of what's left, I guess Spanoulis has the highest ceiling because his game has apparently grown each year for the last several and because of his confidence.

I think people forget how "wide open" the "wide open" shots were last year. The Rockets were missing shots that literally most good horse players could make, and they had about the same amount of time. With the shooters we have now, it should be a field day. Just put Novak out there on a stool and let him fire away.

I chose Battier, not because he'll have a "breakout" season, per se, but because, if our team is as good as we hope it will be, his contributions will be more universally recognized (kinda like Bowen in SA).

I wanted to vote for a darkhorse candidate, as well: Luther Head.

I dunno, something just tells me that he'll fit in better at PG with that all-star lineup better than anyone else. Kinda like Derek Fisher, Ron Harper, or an extremely rich man's Matt Maloney (from the Clyde-Dream-CB4 days). All he has to do is bring the ball up (sometimes), keep his shot consistent, and focus on D. Playmaking duties won't really fall on his shoulders.

I guess the Bonzi signing has turned me into one of the Board's biggest Head fans. If he just plays up to his abilities, I think he'll fit in really well with our new lineup. Go Lu! :)

Crap, just noticed the "new additions" part of the title. Oh well, I voted Shane rather than "other" anyway, plus Lu deserves some mention, as he isn't getting nearly enough love around here anymore.

All you bastards and your shiny new toys. :)

I picked Snyder. He had an average year last year. He was efficient. The Rockets are a place where there are enough good looks and minutes for him to breakout.

Bonzi will have a tough time doing better than he did in Portland. Battier will have a tough time doing more than he did in Memphis.

I think VSpan and JLIII will have a tougher time getting minutes.

I think most on the list will meet my fair expectations, but my gut feeling says Snyder is ripe for the picking.

Are you saying Head will break out in a rash ... or in spurts all over the court?

I probably should have included Head. It's obvious that one of the Rox guards is going to be the odd man out though (and probably lead the bust poll)

Actually, I think if Battier has a season where he can score in the mid-teens that counts as a "breakout" considering he hasn't cracked double digits lately.

I think Battier will be the most comfortable on this team with his role besides Yao, Tracy, and Deke (Deke: the obedient backup). He will be the guy that everyone would appreciate as a teammate, and look forward to sharing the court with. He's not threatening in terms of taking shots or being the center of attention, but he won't back down from the opposition. Battier will be the "Goose" to Tracy's "Maverick" and Yao's "Ice," working together for a common cause. The league will recognize that as Houston goes into the playoffs, and he will be deemed that "breakout" player.

Before the Bonzi signing I would have picked Snyder, but now I don't think he will see the minutes he could have. IMO, Snyder could have been a starter prior to Bonzi.

So now, my pick would go to Bonzi. Yes, Battier will be open in the corner all night -- but he's not going to be taking 10 threes a game. He'll get his 12-14ppg and we'll be happy with that, and thrilled for his contributions away from the basket.

Bonzi is essentially playing another contract year. He also has something to proove, after seeing 90% of the interest in him die over this summer. Last year, that made him jump almost 10ppg from regular season to playoffs. While that is highly unlikely on a team with Yao and T-Mac, Bonzi will be a player that takes advantage of the time/opportunities he's given and make a big name for himself. His stats may not increase by the biggest margin, but I bet his efficiency will, as well as his impact to his team.

Yaeh I can't vote in either of SamFisher's threads because because the polls include apples and oranges. Snyder might have been a good choice before Bonzi but now the only surprise I see coming is V-Span.

He'll have very tough times, but he does seem to be very different than the pgs JVG prefers, and possibly something JVG may respond well to.

But I don't see anyone on this roster likely to break out. If Yao goes for 30 & 12 I don't think it will be that different from what he did in the 2nd half of last season, and if T-Mac goes 27, 6, & 6 that just means he's healthy. And so on...

i still think captain kirk is the biggest x factor. to have a guy that is his size and with his athleticism, plus his shooting ability...he could really have a breakout season.
