He could have used them billions to buy another company or make more money. Computers are his leisure. His passion is building the largest company even bigger and moving into new industries. Some people love a challenge. It's like when Michael went to baseball, and when he came back from retirement to make very little cash.

Retirement is not for everybody. People come out of retirement out of plain boredom. Like a retired engineer that bought a barbershop, so that he could talk all day and not be bored. Or a young airline mechanic that bought a barbershop and makes less money but enjoys the talk also.

Anyways, his father is apparently ignorant to the millions of dollars that his kid is pushing aside for another year of college. Father should be slapped as bad as the son.
