Dean -- I was the biggest Metallica fan you'd find in '91. I saw them play in the Summit for 3 hours with no opening act (I missed one of my varsity basketball games my senior year to go to the concert! Hey, you have to have your priorities straight...). It was an amazing experience. But now, they're just so mainstream, it's just not fun anymore. As for Rage, I have their first album, and it's cool.....I just have this aversion to mainstream music, I guess. I like a lot of types of music. The things I won't (and never have) listen to are: Country, Teeny bopper girl groups (from Britney Spears to Debbie Gibson), and "Boy Bands". Top 6 Favorites: Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, The Doors, Whitesnake, Guns 'n Roses ("A.F.D", and "Lies" only), Steppenwolf, & Creedence Clearwater Revival Other favorites: ROCK - AC/DC, Metallica (pre-A.J.F.A), ZZ Top (old stuff kicks ass), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Nirvana, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Allman Brothers, The Eagles, Skid Row, Queen, Steely Dan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Prince, The Beatles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, .... OTHER - Sade, En Vogue, Luther Vandross, Erykah Badu, N.W.A, Run DMC (80s), Eurythmics, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, TLC, The Police, George Michael, Michael Jackson (older stuff), .... There's a blues guitarist/singer who's name I can't think of. I think it's Johnny "something". But, I saw him on a PBS special one night, and thought he was awesome. I didn't know one of his songs, but I didn't change the channel until the show went off, and I was pissed when it did. Wow!! Who are all these bands. Half of these I havent even heard of. The only oldies band which is in my top ten would have to be Creedence Clearwater Revival. They absolutely rule!!! Outlaw- your right. Scott Stapp is something of an egomaniac. I kinda surprised no one said Limp Bizkit of Korn. Those are some popular sorry bands. Dennis Chambers is amazing. As a drummer, man, after listening to him, I don't know whether to go practice or just cry. One tenor sax grad student here won't call him "Dennis Chambers". It's "Dennis Mr. God Chambers". If you want to hear an example of the album, and you have Napster, look up "Brecker Brothers Some Skunk Funk". It's 6:55 long. I know the video is available through Jamey Abdersold productions. As for bass player, I don't know. The few times I've listened to it, I was too much in shock to catch everyone's names. I'll try to ask my friend tomorrow that has the CD, when I'm ordering him to burn me a copy. On Heavy Metal Be Bop, I think it's Neil Jason. Oh well, here I go: Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, The Jerry Cantrell Band, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Temple of the Dog, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, Metallica (all of it), Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Sevendust, Incubus, Living Colour, ad infinitum.... I'm kinda diggin' some of the new school rock, too. A Perfect Circle and Nickelback are both Stone Cold approved. I know all about Steps Ahead. They are amazing. I love Darryl Jones. The first time I saw bring on the night, I was hooked. Then, I heard the stuff he did with Miles. One of the coolest records he did was John Scofield's "Still Warm" which also had Omar Hakim on drums. Just killer. Will Lee has been on a bazillion albums. Ironically, he's been on more recordings as a singer than he has as a bassist because of all the jingles he's done. We probably listen to much the same kind of stuff. The town I came from could usually name two jazz artists, Kenny G and Miles Davis, IN THAT ORDER! Ugh. I just found out about Steps Ahead less than a week ago. Gotta do some listening there.
