You're right, MadMax, not every player that is in the Hall has 500 homers. However what I am considering is the era that Bagwell is playing in - 500 is a just a number I yanked out of somewhere. It's a high compliment to Bagwell to compare him to Gehrig. I just don't think that he's there yet. ------------------ Clutch Goons, Inc.
Many baseball gurus think OPS (On base plus slugging) is the most important stat an offensive player can excel at. Last I checked Bagwell is in the top 50 lifetime, I think around 25. Bonds and on eother player had a higher career OPS currently. He is the only 1B to have a 30-30. He is one of the best defensive 1B in the game. He has the best arm I have seen at 1st and is probably the most aggressive 1B on the defensive end. ------------------ "You've got 6 fouls, use them well" -Derrick Coleman
PSJ, You've assumed that Bags can maintain his performance for another 7 years.... mighty risky and lofty expectations. I think he is a lock for the Hall, though. I just think if you can hit .300 and average 30+ HRs a year, for over 10 years, you'll get into the Hall of Fame. I do, however, think he needs to play well for a few more years to be certain of being inducted. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
Here is an interesting link, it was done by the NC math department. Top 300 Seasons statistically. Bagwell got on twice at 57 and 207 something. This year he will make it again. http://www.math.unc.edu/Grads/frey/top300seasnp.html ------------------ humble, but hungry.
