My expectations are he better hit every gdamn 3 he attempts if we are taking a modern day Steve Kerr with the 3rd pick of an NBA draft.

Dairy Queen Blizzards. Did it hold when held upside down? Was there a sale?

Irish whiskey. Or beer? Jameson and Tullamore Dew? Protestant? Bushmills. Guinness is great

Willy Wonka? Wilder for sure. Right? Depp? Pirates?

    Jessica Alba? Yes.

He's 6'3 Klay Thompson. If we are stupid enough to pass, SA will grab him happily and annihilate us for the another 15-20 years.

    Offense
PG/SG......good spot shooter, sniper, bringing you 11 to 13 points a game like Luke Kennard,
    .................Korver, McDermott, JJ Redick.

    Defense
PG/SG.........he is not staying in front of 90% of starters, turnover machine in the paint as
....................he gets lost among the trees, turnstile.

Summary: his presence on the court gives up more points defensively than his presence
on the court generates offensively. Udoka won't play him much as teams will put in
starting PG/SG to target Sheppard's defense, or lack thereof.

Terrible draft class, just because players are picked #1, #2, or #3 doesn't mean you changed coal
into diamonds......you just spent a higher price on coal.

Bro we got a point forward in Amen who can’t shoot, point center in Sengun whose undersized and can’t shoot, and now y’all want to spend a #3 on a undersized point guard?

Whose actually handling the ball and whose shooting the ball. Don’t think you can win with that formula

Reed sounds like your spending a #3 on a spot up shooter

Roles in modern basketball don't fit into neat boxes, just like most SG today usually aren't just catch-and-shoot specialists.

Reed will be a "Point Guard" because on any serious team he'll be the smallest guy they start.

However, if you ask me what I think the reasonable path I see him as a player archtype in the half court, I think it'll be.

    1. He'll have a 16-25% usage (for reference last year, Green and Sengun had 27% as the highest starters, Fred had 19% , Jabari and Dillion were at 17%.) depending on the team, probably the 2nd - 3rd highest usage guy. when he's out there.

    2. He will bring the ball up / run pick and roll a decent amount, but almost certainly not James Harden amount. (again, think FVV)

    3. once he gives up the ball he will be able to run around a lot and cause serious havoc as teams just can't leave that guy open. he's sturdy enough that maybe not initially, but eventually they'll be a lot of fun off ball screen things where he'll force teams to make really weird switches.

Reasonable ideal outcome by like year 3-5 (for year one I would be quite pleased if he can be a better Aaron Holiday.) is a bit higher version of this year's Fred Van Vleet, especially a stronger off-ball and transition element. Who we paid a max and felt pretty good about it after actually seeing how it works.

Defensively it's a bit more of a question, his stats said he's some sort of super Gary Payton and the tape obviously wasn't that, however again here the FVV comp is very legit, his hand is just incredible, and he has better anticipation / faster and better jump than Fred. You are a little queasy of how much he free safety things on the tape but it's also hard to argue that it worked way more often than it didn't.

On the ball is the real question, as he's almost certainly not going to be good there, the question is more like is he horrible or can he be average? I think it's reasonable to think especially with his offensive style not being uber high usage and he obviously care and prides himself on defense as well you should bet on the "he can get to being at least a decent defender on ball against smaller players." he has a strong solid base and slide reasonable well when he tried. but did get blown by a lot.

I don't think this is going to be a situation where teams are like oh yeah let's clear out and have our 4th option iso against Reed as our primary go to plan!

There's also the thought that given he's this good off-ball you really should try to hide him regardless, but not for the same reason as one would hide a Trae Young. but mostly because he is so much better as a off ball defender.

There's a non-zero super outcome for this archetype of players that they end up in more in the Curry / Nash / Stockton / Paul stratosphere either because they create so much shooting gravity ( Curry ) or just get to wherever the F they wanted and manipulated the whole court like a mastermind ( Nash) or simply has extreme levels of command and passing discipline like Stockton and Paul. Obviously there are no two exact players, even if they're literally twins.

If 6’3 Klay Thompson annihilates us, then we didn’t build anything worth keeping.

I like this and agree with most of it, except that I don't think Sheppard will ever be as good as FVV. He's a different kind of dude. I don't see him as a starter anytime soon, but I do think he can and will play a lot of minutes. I actually really like the guy, but I see him more as a specialized bench player. I think it's fair to say that taking someone at 3 to fill that role is normally a reach, but not with this guy, and not in this draft. If we don't take him at three, he's going to go pretty soon after. I wish Houston would take him, because i would LOVE to see someone with a shot like his off the bench, but I still expect them to trade the pick.
