Sure, but Abreu’s ball had a 90% catch probability. The Lf played it like a Donkey. Hopefully it will help get him going.
Sometimes, you just need to see one drop. Hopefully he felt good coming through in a big spot and contributing to a nice win. Could collectively use a string of good fortune.
Coming into this homestand, Abreu led the team in hits at Minute Maid Park. I wonder why the Astros were 8-11 at home.
Agreed. For better or worse, he is an Astro and won't be on the bench so I will root for him and cheer every contribution he makes. Sometimes it's tough to join this team and handle the pressure that comes with it. Look at Mancini last year. By all accounts a great guy who worked hard and tried hard but performed well below his level from Baltimore and age was not a factor. Abreu has more time. Hopefully he is completely adjusted and back to himself soon.
His problem hasn't been a lack of finding holes, but rather a lack of quality contact. Strangely he's turned into Yuli Gurriel, but with substantially more strikeouts, which does not make for a good player. Historically Abreu has been one of the best at making quality contact, but just isn't right now. Despite his dip in HRs last year, he was still hitting the ball hard consistently, just with a lower launch angle. Hopefully he figures something out and catches fire.
I don't think he's been seeing it well at all and/or is consistently late to the spot. Hopefully some mechanical changes will get it sorted out. Reminds me of Yuli the year Beltran helped him get both eyes on the pitcher.
That was one of my favorite quotes of all time when Yuli said that Beltran told him to look at the ball with both eyes.
Abreu’s first AB he tuned on two balls in a row and hit them hard while pulling them. That was maybe a decent sign that it might not be all bay speed. Either that or he’s cheating and figuring that out.
If Abreu goes the entire season like he has so far, it would be bad, especially for that contract. But not nearly as bad with Bregman hitting and Altuve back. If Brantley returns and is himself then this lineup is deep enough even with him under performing. But it would be very good with him hitting like he can and has.
0-4 with 2 strikeouts today. Verlander, Correa, the Cardinals have all been booed by their home fans. How long until Minute Maid begins to boo Abreu?
I'm genuinely curious what batting practice with Abreu looks like. Can he even hit a middle middle hanging meatball just begging to be smashed out of the park?
The Astros are winning and they are somehow doing it with the worst everyday hitter in baseball batting cleanup every ****ing night.
