well this one's easy. Clearly the Energy Department doesn't know anything about infectious diseases. Ergo . . . misinformation.

 

It's pretty obvious that China manipulated the story so as not to be blamed for the virus. They were trying to save face and their international standing. Trump, to his credit, saw through the lies early on. The rest of the people are just now catching up to the truth that conservatives have known for a long time. What gets me is how people were SO EMPHATIC that the virus could not have been a lab leak... when the truth of the matter is that they had no clue. Shame on these dishonest charlatans.

What else do we think liberals are lying about in the name of "science"? Climate change leaps to mind...

I really do not understand the conservatives furor or righteous indignation over this. The best answer we can give has been is that we are not sure where it came from beyond Wuhan. There are plenty of historical examples of zoonotic/animal crossover and the Wet Market was ground zero.
It is widely accepted that the Chinese were researching coronaviruses at their virology institute and that is what they should be doing.
Whether a sick lab worker brought it with them or an infected bat was the source does not change the history at all: a lot of people died and many more are permanently harmed from that first infection.
Even if China released it on purpose, the outcome is the same. China has shown no willingness to investigate a lab leak. Lab leak or not, US and Chinese relations are nearing all time lows.

It’s like there are two circles of non overlapping populations in the world.

We are supposed to be debated merits of tax cuts and government spending. But it turns out, we don’t have differences of opinions but completely different and increasingly incompatible views of the world.

masks may or may not work, depending on how they're used. cloth masks, which many of us wore for months early on, are useless. and masking kids, who are already at extremely low risk, was pointless, and incurred untold costs in health and development of half a generation.

Covid was and is largely a disease that adversely affects the elderly, obese, and others with underlying health problems. this is a significant population, and deserved to be taken seriously, but shutting the entire country down was not necessary, and mandating vaccines, particularly for those who had already been infected, was likewise an overreach.

I say this as someone who has been infected three times, had three shots, but is now recovering from a non-covid virus that has had a much broader impact on my health than covid ever did. prednisone FTW.

the origin story remains important however, and not just for the political implications, and the fact that large swaths of the community were branded as racist, conspiracy theorists, and cancelled, fired from the jobs, and otherwise shunned, for pointing out what should have been obvious all along were it not for TDS.

I'm no fan of DJT, but he was president at the time, had access to intel, and as we're now finding out, was right. it sucks when evil people are right about something, but here we are. and a large swath of the US body politic sided with a brutal dictatorship simply because Orange Man Bad.

Moreover, it is entirely possible that the US government played a role in funding the research that enabled the virus to be as deadly as it turned out to be. perhaps an unwitting role, but we don't know yet. again, Ron Paul appears to have known what he was talking about. this is not conspiracy, it is inconvenient reality.

we were lied to be our government, the press, and national health officials. this should trouble all of us, no matter where we fall on the political spectrum.
