There is no way Young is a 4.5 guy, he ran a 4.8 in high school. If he was a 4.5 guy he would be number 1 overall. He is quick and shifty absolutely. That’s what is good about Levis, he’s quick, shifty and powerful. The entire video is great but skip to 5:13 mark and watch the speed
Yeah that looks like about the same speed as Deshaun, who was also a 4.6 guy. I think what's more important than raw speed, is game speed and comfortableness with running in general. Davis Mills technically tested out as a fairly fast guy, but he doesn't like to run, he's not comfortable doing it and in games, he looks way slower than his times. I'm not taking a 4.8 time from a random scouting website that says he can only bench 175. I could bench that easily in high school and I only weighed 150 lbs. I can almost guarantee you, he can at least run under 4.7 and he had no problem running away from some of the best defender in college football at Georgia.
I can see Bryce being a high 4.6 guy, still great but not elite. Neither Levis or Young have elite breakaway speed, but they’re both very quick and shifty. I prefer Levis in the sense that he’s more explosive and powerful, Young is a little more slippery and shifty. I wouldn’t be mad at Bryce (except that he’s probably not 5’11) the dude is impressive. Levis is a prototype though, and he’s only getting better. Like you said, I would take any of them. Even Stroud(although I don’t want a slow Ohio St QB)
And the 4.8 was actually from Bryce himself https://www.ncsasports.org/football...-angeles/cathedral-high-school16/bryce-young4 Kids do get faster in college, just have a hard time seeing a 4.8 guy go to a 4.5. That’s really difficult
If we're being honest with ourselves, I really think Nick Caserio's preference in drafting a qb would be 1. Will Levis 2. CJ Stroud 3. Bryce Young. We got to see what kind of QB he generally likes when he drafted Davis Mills. He likes big, strong guys that can stand in the pocket. Will Levis can do that the best, plus he can run. He's a clear upgrade over Davis Mills in every way.
All 3 are upgrades. I’m really disappointed in Mills regression. It would have benefited the Texans so much if he proved he was the guy. I think Caserio prefers Stroud honestly, big pocket QB that has great accuracy. I just have my doubts.
I agree, but I also think he likes to believe that the position can be coached up, so he'd rather have the raw physical traits that can't be coached. I think Stroud's arm is good enough and better than Mills, but Levis truly has no limitations there. We now have to deal with Trevor Lawrence and potentially Malik Willis in our division. Don't think it's smart to hitch the wagon to a QB with physical limitations in today's game.
I think trying to gauge ceiling for young QBs is really difficult. A lot of great QBs don't start to realize their potential until after 3-4 years in the league. Some great QBs didn't start right away--Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, etc. I believe that helped them prepare for when they got their chance. Guys like Jim Plunkett and Steve Gannon didn't start well, but finished strong after they gained experience and got into the right system. I share all of this because I believe you evaluate each player based on their potential to transition to and succeed as an NFL play caller. Levis has moved around in his career and that has contributed to his being an older prospect. If you get lucky enough to get a franchise QB, they can easily play 10-15 years (if you protect them). A couple of years of age shouldn't really be a big factor (IMO) when you're looking to draft a long-term asset.
Man the offensive line for Kentucky is so bad. I honestly think running a pro style offense in college just doesn’t work as well. It’s good for Levis from a development standpoint, but it makes his numbers look worse for sure.
It’s not a fair comparison because one is playing at Alabama and the other is playing in the same conference but with far inferior players around him.
I don’t think there’s much more projection for Young personally, he isn’t going to get bigger, faster or stronger. His QB skills can grow but by how much?
I guess y’all would’ve taken Trubisky (pro measurements) over Watson (stacked team)/Mahomes (air raid, terrible team) in 2017. Or Paxton Lynch over a Dak cos of measureables.
