That really was some of the worst coaching I've seen in my life. From terrible substitution patterns and running with your backups way past their limit, and then not being able to execute simple inbounds plays and getting terrible shots in end-game situations... that is on the coach. Of course, Cedi and Furkan both threw the game as well. Not sure if they are NBA level players.
I don't know. It looked to me like France was the one that narrowly avoided the super embarrassing loss here. Late in the second quarter, the Turkish players on the court found some things that were working, they made a nice run in the 3rd quarter behind some made 3s, and Ataman just tried to ride the wave. Why not? If Osman makes either one of those late FTs (from a gifted, semi-bogus intentional foul call) and/or inbounds the ball correctly, Turkey slides by, and they go on to their best finish in Eurobasket history. I'm not sure I blame the coach for not executing or extending effort on an inbounds play, but the players (across the entire team) have been struggling with this for weeks. But I would agree that Ataman wasn't adding any value. His team played like him: chip on his shoulder, out of sorts, easily distracted, and unable to stay focused on making winning plays. And he did seem to make everything about the nation of Turkey being disrespected. France had a good game plan for Sengun; he looked like a 20-year-old trying to figure it out. Gobert and Taco Fall dared him to shoot over the top or FT line jumpers. They were ready for the Sengun spin and gave ground. If you ran your offense through Sengun, you would draw the teeth of the entire French defense. Other reserves stepped in and made perimeter shots when he went to the bench. The stage seemed a little big for him (as it was for many people in this game).
alpi had fournier on him LOL thats why you want the ball in senguns hands ALWAYS goodbuy ataman i hope you lose your job...you deserve it!
Turkey was already finalist in Eurobasket 21 years ago. How come passing France would be best finish? Even they passed France they still have to pass another two steps to reach finals. Two steps, first should be Greece or Serbia and the second step of Slovenia. Ataman needs professional help. He was not that idiot. A watermelon would coach the team at the same level. He is #2 in decadence following the leader, Greg Popovich. Cedi made exactly same things against the USA 3 years ago, Korkmaz wasted the last chance against Slovenia 1 month ago, Gobert played with 1 foul less than to be fouled out and Alpi, the 7th most efficient player in the tournament watched the game from a prime seat,.. He should resign and Mehmet Okur should be appointed as new coach. Ataman should focus coaching ultra-funded Efes as he will be positively discriminated by Barteomu&Euroleague because of Anti-FIBA attics.
thats why you give ball to sengun at the very beggining of the preparation period, couple months ago, and make it nuanced and well prepared offense... you dont try to figure it out in the most crucial game of the competition... to have sengun and not run the offense tru him make you a clueless/careless coach...
Gobert guarded Alpi on nearly every possession; Alpi didn't take many chances. He did make a turnaround jumper over Gobert (which I thought was a solid possession). On D, I thought Alpi held his ground, rebounding in his area, trying to stay in front. Ataman put other people on Gobert, which let Alpi be a help side defender. He did ok in that role.
https://www.fiba.basketball/eurobasket/2022/game/1009/Turkey-France#tab=boxscore I find euro basketball pages very counter intuitive to use. Maybe it is because I am used to the American websites.
