At least Guardians has a real cultural/civic connection to the city. People ragging on the name likely have no clue that it’s a historically significant theme reference to the city. Much more so than “Indians.” They could’ve done a lot worse.
Judging from the lack of universal acceptance of "Texans"... its going to take more than 20 years, or the team needs to win a championship, for a new name like this to take hold.
thanks but I think everyone knows why they were given the name. Some of us knew the “histoical significance” even before last year! Still a dumb name. Sounds dumb.
Nah, not a bluff... One that has been doing it consistently and wont go back to being a sub 200 avg hitter..
I want the best record in MLB but I don't want the reward of having the great 2-3-2 format. Especially when the Stros just play with more energy on the road. 1st place problems.
Swept the Yankees at home and split on the road, if that carries over to the postseason the longest the series can go is 6.
Chief Wahoo and his entire tribe were killed for the sake of convenience, I doubt Cleveland wins anything as long as they play on their self-made Indian Burial Ground.
It literally sounds no dumber than “Astros” or “Yankees” or “Dodgers” (wtf is a dodger??) or “White Sox” (oh wow y’all wear white socks?? Crazy!) or “Pirates” (pirates? In land locked Pittsburgh??) Anyways why are we talking about this again?? Go stros!
Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. Got it's name literally from people dodging the new mode of transportation of the time. Hundreds were injured and killed in the early days when pedestrians were still used to being able to walk in the street without a fast moving machine barreling down on them. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...re-named-after-terrified-brooklyn-pedestrians
Astros = Astronaut (You’ve of NASA, right?) Dodgers = Draft Dodger (As in WWII, the team was originally in Brooklyn)
Only way the Guardians name is cool is if your closer is named GROOT, and all of the players come out to oldy rock songs
Houston should have never formed a new football team until they could secure the old Oilers name back
