Not a surprise given that multinationals run their divisions as essentially separate companies. The social media channels for one country are going to be managed by a completely different team than in another country. Additionally, these kinds of activities are driven less by the brand team and more by the social media team and the employees at the company rather than the marketing folks thinking this is a good way to acquire new customers (it does nothing). However, it does make LGBTQ employees feel more welcomed and accepted and that's why companies "support" it.
When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a culture war. In the grand scheme of things.. I just really don’t care…. We have bigger fish to fry and “wokeness” via corporate marketing isn’t the problem with corporate America. A Corporate marketing strategy around being inclusive but not wanting to hurt the business at the same time as helping it… welcome to corporate America in a nutshell. Go look at the C level of suite of basically any C corp and then tell me what is similar about all of them. So instead of this culture war nonsense why don’t we talk about making these greedy a holes pay taxes and put in place new regs to disincentivize stock buy backs?
I think what they are trying to say is this: Anything positive a left leaning person does is woke and virtue signaling. But anything a right-winger does is just being altruistic and godly. When beloved DeSantis says he wants to stop people from saying gay in schools, he's not virtue signaling to his radical basis so he can win the nomination, oh noooo! He's standing up for parents who don't want their kids to be exposed to that un-Christian idea of homosexuality. When he makes the Florida health department talk about the risks of the Covid vaccine and misrepresent scientific research - he's not virtue signaling, oh nooooo! Never! He wouldn't do that to make him the favorite to get the nomination for Prez? Would he? No, he is just calling out the evil scientists who want to inject our kids with all those shots and kill them!
So June might be Pride Month in the United States but I don't believe most places in the Middle East have a Pride Month. It would strange for companies to redecorate for something that isn't an event in a place.
I just think it’s funny how ignorant the right is in regards to the left’s relationship with “wokeness” in corporate America. Corp America does NOT want America to be liberal because our policy positions equate to paying taxes in their minds. But at the same time they realize the mega purchasing power that is there so they try to pander in marketing strategy while at the same time contributing to dark money pacs to help get people like DeSantis or Rick Scott elected in the hopes he’ll cut taxes more for the top and cut “entitlements” so their workers bust their tail more to try and make more money in their day jobs. The OP is an open DeSantis supporter and he’s apparently mad at the type of corporation executives who’ll be funding his 2024 run??? Talk about next level ignorance of the system here in the US of corporations, dark money, and their pandering to the consumer market they seek to exploit. Yes there are some good intentioned executives out there in corporate America but they are few and far between in my experience. The left does not cheer lead corporate wokeness like the right thinks we do. Most people on the left understand the game and will just purchase the best product at the best price and will try to not support businesses that are tearing apart society but our system allows for a lot of these billionaires and multimillionaires to hide behind dark money pacs.
Homophobia gone wild. Not sure what people are scared of, or why they care what folks do in their own bedrooms. Better than all those alleged religious Islamic men screw 12 year old boys in the ass...in Afgahnastan. Or the Catholic church hiding all their pedophile preachers..... DD
On the one hand, it's dumb, and these companies are only doing it because it's financially beneficial. So it's hollow and if you really buy into it then you're a sucker. On the other hand, I have seen a study that found that a company can increase the diversity of its workforce by simply changing its messaging in its communications. Further, that study found that emphasizing diversity does not dissuade non-underrepresented demos from applying. That study was called "Increasing workplace diversity: evidence from a recruiting experiment at a Fortune 500 Company" and was published in the Journal of Human Resources. So, in the end, yes, the whole thing is a sham and if seeing a rainbow in the lobby makes you feel better about working for Raytheon then you are a dumbass... but, there does seem to be some benefit.
Corporations tailor their images to align with their customers' expectations. Is it hypocritical for Buick to present their Chinese models as luxurious milestones of personal success and their American models as rolling Alexas for morons?
Hypocrisy from who? The Middle East should definitely not have a problem with Pride Month, but they don't have it over there. It's like being upset if Toyota had a Red White and Blue Logo for their US cars on the 4th of July but saying that because they don't have Red White Blue logo for their cars in Japan during the 4th of July weekend they are being hypocritical. The corporations aren't the ones dictating or even suggesting policy in the United States or the Middle East. But it isn't surprising or particularly hypocritical to have the special logo in nations where the pride month is recognized and not to have it in nations where it isn't recognized. The issue should be with the policies in the Middle East rather than with the companies.
