Stone? Looking at the other names and considering how long he’s been with the rockets I guess I’m okay with this. but…if we end up with the #5 pick there’ll be hell to pay
We should send “The Dude”. How fun would it be to eat a gummy, have a top shelf Margarita in a styrofoam cup and get to be your team’s rep at the lottery?
Perhaps the team that would pass the rockets up would want Sharpe/Ivey, while knowing the Rockets want a non guard would move down for the 17th pick or for Wood. I am not sure what other teams in the lottery would skew towards a guard though.
portland is getting the #1 pick. you heard it here first. league wants to pair dame with a star for the Pac NW market.
Why don't they do the drawing on the stage ? Like literally every other televised lottery spectacle makes the physical drawing of the balls the signature event, as it should be! But not the NBA, they do a secret drawing and then unveil envelopes, that's dumb as hell! Tremendous missed opportunity here for a league that monetizes everything!
Love your work, even the posts I'm not clever enough to understand. Selling Mobley Shorts is a personal favorite. Conspiracy theories aside, they would do the drawing live if they could, but there is no progression of drama. They are drawing four numbers, and the first three numbers they draw wouldn't have meaning to the viewer until the final number is drawn, and four number combination gives you the results of all top four picks. If you have no idea what the drawing means until all four are pulled, that's the same excitement level of just looking up the results after the fact. That would actually be an even worse viewing spectacle than what they do now. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/...van-mobley-short.311956/page-16#post-13597701
Yeah but this can be easily remedied! Simply publish each team's combinations of numbers befoehand, and as the digits are read off, you can eliminate that team's name from the list! Or a "powerball" type situatoin, or draw 4x, etc. These guys are smart, there is a way to do this You could even do something where teams get to pick their own numbers or the fans get to pick the numbers! People arguing over random number combinations on the internet is basically why it was built.
I agree that Bill Koenig & co are very smart and very good marketing people. If there was an easy fix to make the drawing exciting and monetize it better within the current lotto system, they'd probably already be doing it. The Rockets are involved in 521 of the 1,000 combinations for top four. You can't search 521 'lotto ticket' numbers in real time. Even if there was a way to draw pingpong balls for the top four, that would leave the anticlimactic listing out of all the lotto losers who aren't top four afterwards, because remember they are only drawing the top four. To get the actual live drawing we all think would be cool, I think they'd have to overhaul the entire lotto system and draw for each pick. I wouldn't be opposed.
