There weren't civil liberties being threatened. Not allowing businesses to decide how to run their own business is the opposite of freedom or small government. There is no way around that. It isn't pro-business and it isn't pro-freedom. It might be appealing to you but that doesn't change what it was.
Actually Disney spoke out because at first they stayed out of it, and their employees were furious. So then Disney's CEO came out with a strong statement. Disney wasn't looking for brownie points from the left. They have no need for brownie points from the left.
Cuban immigrants have a long history of strong GOP support because they bought into the "US vs Communism" right wing narrative. Especially with the older generation. Most of those people were more upper class land owners who got their property stolen and were forced to flee to the US.
funny, one might think you are politicizing a public health debate. I recall that once upon a time, you recognized that there were different science based views on all these issues. Magically, that recognition has gone and the motive ascribed to public health discussions is … authoritarianism. This is another feature of todays Republican Party.
There are two bases for a republican on a federal level, the arizona/texas latinos (and desantis and trump both have appeal there, and they both have florida locked up), but the split and perhaps the most important is the working class of Pa, Wi, Mi, as it stands right now, only Trump has recognition there (they don't really even know DeSantis yet and his voting history isn't along their lines), DeSantis would only eek in Ohio right now, a state decidedly more right than the other 3. This group does not care about culture wars, this group cares about the economic impact of the policies almost exclusively (because they're the ones that got ruined by the social darwinism they call trade deals).
If - 10 years ago - you bet someone $100 w/Vegas odds that certain posters were going to morph into a bunch of venomous alt-right antivax trolls... .. you'd have $104.28 right now.
Example #1... retaliating against a company whose executives criticized him. Example #2... ban on sanctuary cities. Example #3... opposition to ACA. In general... appeals to people through fear and hatred. Against gays, Against CRT. Against WOKE (whatever that is). If anything, desantis has been more dangerous than trump, since he was able to get laws enacted (in his state at least) to codify the hate and fear that trump could only give speeches about. And watch desantis give speeches. He even uses some of the trump hand gestures. He literally is imitating him.
I do. per·se·cu·tion /ˌpərsəˈkyo͞oSH(ə)n/ noun hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. "her family fled religious persecution"
Are you seriously equating the lock downs in China to anything currently happening in NY or California or anything that happened in the entirety of COVID in those 2 states?
Sammyboi being anti DeSantis is just addditional validation that DeSantis has been winning. Because @SamFisher is almost always wrong. And quite bitter about it, too.
I liked this post because most conservatives won't acknowledge this, they will instead take credit for progress they resisted all along... I still think you have Desantis all wrong, he's not anything close to being a moderate, the whole "Stop WOKE Act" proves he's the same as Trump and other Trumpian republicans who run more on feeding a base that is more focused on 'owning the libs' than doing anything else. That's the main difference between someone like Romney or George Bush or the late John McCain, they realized that there was another side of there was another side to the country and while they understood the other side of the country didn't like them very much they understood that other side was still their responsibility and were still Americans. Everything Desantis does, especially these big things that reach the national news lines, he does to virtue signal. He's very popular in Florida, no doubt, but I don't think he'll be very popular nationally. I also think he will be ruined by Trump no matter what he does. If he takes Trump on he's going to lose in the end because in order to take on Trump he either has to... Run to the left of Trump, obviously not a good thing for the GOP base and would lose a GOP primary to Trump. or Take on the big lies that Trump has sold to the GOP base, that the elections weren't rigged and the various conspiracies Trumpublicans have sold, that's not going to sell well to a base that increasingly believes this is true. or Become Trump's VP which will then forever link him with Trump So I feel like he's doomed for some kind of big national run at the moment. If his plan is becoming president 2024 might not be the best time for him, but I guess we will see.
You are so absolutely wrong about this. We closed things down in NYC because we had to, nowhere was hit harder. Then we opened bars up to takeout drinks, allowed outdoor restaurant seating ON THE STREET, YOU KNOW- WHERE CARS DRIVE. This was done for the people, to feel some normalcy, to interact in a less dangerous way than indoors. Stop talking about what you don’t understand.
