his FT% has come around imho as he got more minutes and a better rhythm hes shooting FTs 72 % on the season now good job, good effort!
That might be the biggest mistake of Greg Popovich. I couldn't decide which one was the greatest :Obradovic or Popovich. After seeing not drafting Sengun at#12, I believe Obradovic is better coach than Greg. What a miss for Spurs, what a gain for Rockets.
Is it OK for Sengun to have 5 turnovers in a game? Asking for Kevin Porter Jr. The Sengun toxic positivity squad is very entertaining though I give them that.
No, it is not okay. It is also not okay if he makes 10 or 15 turnovers. But all are irrelevant because he has 1.9 turnovers per game. Of course you can argue this is because he can't play more due to his stamina and fouling. Looking at his per 36 numbers (not that he is going to play 36 minutes let alone 30 minutes), he has a shocking 3.7 turnovers, still much less than 5. And more importanly 1.1 less than KPJ, only .4 more than JC and DJ Augustine. You are also not interested in his absolutely fantastic stats for a 19 year old rookie with 30 games in his pocket. Let me remind you those Per36: Assists: 5.2 (3rd behind KPJ, DJ Augustine) Steals: 2 (1st) Blocks: 1.6 (2nd behind Garuba) Offensive rebounds: 3.2 (1st) FTA: 6.9 (1st) FTM: 5 (1st) Deflections: 3.9 (1st) Offensive loose balls recovered: 0.6 (2nd behind Nwaba, ties with house and tate) Charges drawn: 0.6 (2nd behind Mathews) Screen assists: 3.4 (2nd behind Garuba) Screen point assists: 9 (1st) So there is really a lot of base for 'toxic positivity' for Sengun but not much for your 'toxic negativity'. Naturally, there is a lot in his game that needs to improve and we can have a good conversation about. But trying to enjoy a weak point of his game by exaggeration seems just as toxic to me as trying to get crazy about him.
He needs to improve his turnovers and fouls like everyone says, but if you are going to allow KPJ and Jalen to shoot sub 40% and still get court time, I think its only fair to let Sengun foul out if need be. I think he is a smart enough player to where he will learn how the officiating is in the NBA and adjust over the next season or two. The same for passing. Some of the passes he got away with in the Turkish league don't fly in the NBA due to increased speed, length and scouting. Play the man!
I know this probably just sounds like excuses but I dont count offensive foul turnovers to be as bad as turnovers off poor/lazy passes. And don’t get me wrong, Sengun has his fair share of those as well. But for the purposes of judging a player, I thought those offensive foul calls last night were bullshit. They also called him an offensive three seconds, which is something that never gets called, that goes down as a turnover as well. I’ve seen offensive players in the paint for 10 seconds and not get called for that.
I just find it fascinating how Sengun gets only the positives bragged about, but when anyone brings up negatives it turns into a riot around here! LOL
